Strombergs is a drop shipper company (don't ask me how that works) those birds come from Privett as well. Also, the quality of other Privett breeds that I have seen around town and at swaps and the county fair are exceptional, so they are doing something right. Order in confidence.
Privett have the legitimate old CG lines - they are not selling a remake. (as if that where possible)
Privett also sell a 'barred leghorn' which they claim is a different bird but they use the same photo (when their website is working again) because they claim they look so much alike.

Beautifully writen and very helpful. Thank you.
Lets continue to keep them out of the APA as the breeder intended and promote them ourselves.

And they serve all the TSC / Tractor Supply stores in the spring if anyone wishes to have less than 25 birds they can be...
what's missing from this thread is - what strain do you have - what hatchery did they come from and what year did you get them...then readers could put them on their 'try' or 'avoid' list. also, to be more helpful, it would be great if the cross was noted too...are they a 'rir over a riw' a 'red...
really valuable and thoughtful - every one should consider this type of information with the bred for battery cage sexlinks...anyone can create sexlinks with heritage birds in their own flocks but the ones from hatcheries are HIGHLY selected by giant corporations who have been working on them...
JUST A REMINDER
it is ordering time - if anyone would like fewer than 25 birds from Privett ask the tractor supply company TSC to ad your birds to one of their regular orders.
also, as far as i understand, strombergs and welp 'drop ship' CG from Privett (dont ask me how that works)

those could run all day on a solar panel and at night on the deep cycle. save the labor of swapping batteries. real hands free would be the use of a charger controler which switches automatically from sun to battery...i love anything 12 volt.
i have noticed that although there are only a few posts on this thread that it does get read by a large number of people so i wanted to add that, peppered throughout other threads california whites are frequently mentioned as the favorite within the mixed flock, they seem to stand out as...
i have read this thread and somewhere in it is information about reduced humidity at lockdown or something similar which is a key to their hatch.
(consider the environment they are acclimatized to)
at least 2 people who have been on this thread sell eggs on ebay and they do it weekly so they...

i have been on a long chicken break and am
deeply thankful for all of the input here over the months.
please lets keep this thread active for this worthy race and the work of the Drydens.
it is so worthy it has survived on its own (for commercial reasons) but usually a breed
lives or dies based...
sad really,
someone spent a serious amount of time to produce a breed which seemed really remarkable.
i have taken a chicken break for many months, but i am back and
if anyone wants to relaunch this thread and work to save the breed (if possible) (if stock can be found)
i'd love to...
Michael Apple and tommysgirl
i have been out to my orchard for the last 6 weeks working my butt off.(80 miles from my city apartment
really thankful for the great information on the grey personality especially
in comparison to other breeds ! and michael - you are right about people

Michael Apple thank you.
that was quite unexpected. a woman out west has tried to convince me to get the 'grey over the jaerhon
because they are so calm...an account on another thread said that the cal whites where the calmest of his
lightweight layers including austra white. so it's the only...
it would be nice to know from everyone here how well they feel the cal grey forages - i have been unable to find information on this
and first hand testimony is better than any other source.
compare their ability to another well known breed recognized for foraging if you could.

last year they where selling their cal greys under the name production black as well, using the same photo for both.
this year they changed it to barred legrn using the same photo. the only thing i am sure that they really have is the cal grey because of
oldtime' on this thread, he would know...
