Sorry you lost one. 😮💨
I know it's frustrating.
Anything can happen wether your brooding or letting them raise them. I've even had two cayugas that were co- brooding try to rip a duckling apart when it hatched.
Agree with all the above except for the drake part. That is not always the way. Sometimes a drake will even harass the mom on the nest to get her off of it cause he's horny.
Sometimes drakes will harass or kill ducklings.
And even if it goes well for 2 or 3 weeks when they get a little bit...
That's what made me think you have 4 foot predators and not arial ones. Hawks will a lot of times pluck feathers of a bird before eating.
I'm not sure about those vultures though.
And then perhaps with yours being free ranged they may have chased the ducks to a far enough location before they...
I know they are protected.. but i thought they may do something about them...
Hell. Should have known better. Sorry.
I can't tell for sure from your photos but it's a good possibility
@WannaBeHillBilly
You need to call conservation about those. They may come do something about them. They are causing problems here in MO too. It has even been on the radio to report sightings.
Well... it's not impossible nut i think it is more likley to be coyotes or something and the vultures are just there eating what the coyotes are leaving. I'm thinking if it were an arieal predator you'd find feathers or something. I don't see how vultures could carry off that many full size...
I wore my nader jammies and went to bed.
Phones were blaring as well as my alexa devices giving me warnings. Mason was scared to death as usual. My boss called and told me to take cover so i pulled the blankies over my head.
We didn't have any damage luckily. Just another torrential downpour...
I saw an indigo bunting today! Too bad it didn't stick around.
But.. a few Martins have shown up :clap
No bird pics.. but blooms are ok here too right?
