I picked up a few additions to my Sizzle project... Got a gorgeous tolbunt Polish frizzled roo and going to cross him on some black Silkies and see what I get. How cool would it be to make a hard feathered silkie type critter with the tolbunt coloring?! I'm not aiming for fancy, high quality...
I've decided to have a frizzle specific pen, so I bought these beauties from the Carolina Chickenstock. The roo will obviously be in a pen of non-frizzles, and the hens in with a Silkie rooster.
Tolbunt Polish roo- I am so in love with this bird...
Sizzle hen... Her head is on the right...
Thanks for the info! She is by far my favorite chicken- she has so much personality. She is hilarious. She also lives to be broody. I bought eggs from Catdance Silkies this week, and she sent me so many extras I couldn't fit them all in the bator. I was all upset thinking about what to do with...
My lovely girl did not make it, we spent the night giving her subQ fluids and tube feeding, but she was too far gone. After I totally decontaminated myself, I went out and checked every bird in every pen. My one Silkie pen (4 birds) all have slightly sniffly breathing and a tiny bit of crust...
When bred to my Silkie roo or showgirl roo, she has never, ever produced anything but a regular Silkie chick- and she's hatched out a ton. It confuses me, one would think she would pop out the occasional curly frizzly critter!
I cooked her up a turkey egg a bit ago, and cut it up in tiny pieces and she ate the whole thing. Then she finished off half a banana. She's a trooper. I feel like her eating and drinking is a sign that she will make it.
Bump again..
She has a lot of watery green and white poo now. Don't know if that means anything. She's drinking a ton, which I would think explains the explosive watery-ness of the poo.
It's always good to have Tylan on hand. I lost a little cockerel last week to similar symptoms, but I didn't have tylan and Tractor Supply did not have it. I didn't have any other sick birds, but I decided to order it anyway, just in case. Got it in the mail yesterday- then today my favorite hen...
Thank you, that is an excellent idea. She's a big girl, I may be able to weight her using my bathroom scale- it does pounds and ounces. The good thing is she's been a big, hearty, robust girl so she has extra fat reserves to draw on. But I will monitor her very carefully. Just being what she is...
My beloved "Winglet" is suffering from what I think is the myco-somethingorother. She's wheezy, gurgling, trouble breathing. Slight nasal discharge, watery eyes. Hunched up and not herself. No odor, and no abnormal poop or anything. I should have realized she was sick last night, Winglet is a...
What would you call this sweet girl? I'm thinking Frilkie? She's got great skin, comb, correct toes- very Silkie- but her feathers are different. I call her Not-Sizzle.
If anyone is interested, I have a beautiful 2 year old turkey hen for sale or trade for some Silkies or Sizzles. I believe she is Royal Pal, she is mainly white with some brown checkering on her back and wings. She's a sweetie, lays daily, and is an excellent mama. Her mate passed away, and now...
I will be looking for some nice Silkies to add to my small flock, as well as some Sizzles. I'm so excited! My husband does not understand my excitement, but he made an accurate prediction- "You'll be frothing at the mouth, running in all directions, with chickens under your arms and money...
I bought a handful of breeder quality birds from Hat Trick, and this one roo I just don't need. Black isn't my color of choice! He's beautiful, has awesome feet, and has done well the one time I've shown him. He is not in condition, and I know his feet are filthy in the pic, but it was too cold...
