I *might* have gotten an Iris egg finally. I can usually tell my girls' eggs apart, but my BO has gone broody. I finally took her off the nest and found 6 eggs under her. One of them looked like it might have been from Iris. I'm moving my BO into the isolation pen to "break" her tomorrow (too...
Still no egg from Iris.
In fact, only 1 egg today from Poppy, my BO. I think they are mad because I switched up the run, opened one of the new nesting boxes, and put in a second feeder.
Just to be cautious, I inspected them for parasites. I don't see anything, and that leads me to believe...
So far, she seems back to normal. I would definitely like to see her lay an egg, but it hasn't happened yet.
The only pic I got was that one I posted earlier. I didn't really dissect it so much as try to flatten/unroll/untangle the membrane to determine if it was really a membrane. I...
VERY good advice, as always. You are fantastic, @micstrachan . I am still @ work, but I'm headed to the feed store right after. I will get antibiotics. I am having a hard time getting her to eat calcium, though. I will have to get creative.
I was concerned about that material she passed, too. I...
I can catch her. She's big and slow, and those wacky feathered feet make running for her akin to what it might be like if I tried running in swim flippers - LOL! She doesn't like it, but too bad. I'm bigger, meaner, and faster! Bwahahahaha! I will Nutri Drench her tomorrow, and I will see if...
I'm baaaaaack.....
Iris hasn't laid yet. She usually lays every other day. It's been 3 days since the shelless egg. When should I start to worry?
Also, since I've been keeping a very close eye on her, I've noticed that Zinnia, my BR, had been kinda mean to her. I'm wondering if Iris hasn't...
Her bum was nice and clean (as far as chicken bumps go).
Can't sleep tonight. Work stress. Instead, I'm shopping for chicken related things (books, decor, clothing....). Cheap therapy, right?
UPDATE: Iris is def feeling better since passing that icky egg. I'm not 100% convinced that she's back to normal, though. When I put them to bed tonight (i.e. locked them in the coop for the night), her crop had some food in it, but it was a lil squishy. Normally, it's like she's smuggling a...
She is doing much better! She's wandering the yard and eating again. I won't feel 100% assured until she lays a good egg again. And she's an inconsistent layer, so that might not happen for days. Good thing I can tell my girls' eggs apart.
Thanks, everyone, for helping. I read about these...
I will try the Nutri Drench, but she's awfully leery of me after yesterday's shenanigans. She is walking around now, which is already better than yesterday. I made a mash of pellet, water, nutri drench, and tums, but she wants no part of it yet.
I'm watching closely, though.
