Some updated on my birds .. they are 10 weeks old today...so the one that you helped me to def identify as a cockeral, crowed this week. So cute! He is such a lovely, gentle guy so far. The other that there was some doubt over, I'm still not sure about ..If it wasn't for the tail, I'd think...
Thank you Eggz,
I'm hoping you're right as I only have 3 chicks ( first time chicken owner) and so far 2 confirmed males, the one in this thread and a slightly younger Bresse chick I hatched ( He is adorable! ) lol To top that, the one that might be a pullet is an absolute bully towards the...
Hi all, some updated photos, now these chicks are 8 weeks.
Pretty sure both are male but one has a much redder comb & bigger wattles than the other so still unsure as some hens seem to have pretty big combs. So does it def look like I have 2 roos? Thanks for your help
Thanks, luvmychicks, yeah, think I have to resign myself that they most likely are. One is a bit of a bully, the other gets in between and gently breaks up squabbles so maybe at least one will be a good guy ☺
My chicks are6 weeks old now. Isent so e pics to the personI got them from & he now says they're red mottled leghorns ... who knows! They are healthy & happy, doing great, whatever they are ☺ Anyway, I wondered can anyone tell yet what gender they might be? I thought this 1st one might be male...
Hi all 😊
WAY behind in my garden this year because I got my first chicks so I've been happily occupied with them. Spuds all went in on time, St. Patricks day. Need to play catch up fast so plan to sow some peas, beans, cabbage, carrots & winter squash tomorrow. Short season here so I've missed...
Thanks for your input guys, I appreciate it.
They're back in the brooder now so it's a bit more awkward to get pics but here's a few more. The one I thought might be a hen is on the left of the 2nd photo
Oh ok. The guy I got them from said he hatched brown leghorns & cream legbars so was't sure which I got. Looking at pics online i've been assuming brown leghorns but maybe not. I don't mind what breed/mix they are though. I just love them anyway 😊
Thank you! I do hope so but if I have a male, that's ok too. They are just over 4 weeks & yes, 2 different birds. The first one is slightly bigger & has a bit more colour around his neck & chest. The other one is SO bossy & def rules the roost, blocks the food etc sometimes....thats why I...
I know these baby Brown Leghorns are likely still too young
(under 5 weeks) but would any of you lovely people take a guess, please? I think I have 1 of each but that's a purely uneducated guess as these are my first chickens 😊 thank you
I'm struggling with this also. First timer with chickens soneed all the help I can get. I have 2 chicks who are almost 4 weeks and one chick wh is 2.5 weeks old. I tried putting the younger one in a week ago but the older chicks just constantly pecked so I removed him and put a divider in the...
Good luck withyour latest hatch! Here's my one & only wee cutie. Such a character, makes me laugh, never seen anything move so fast! Might have to call him Speedy lol
Hi & welcome, ELizabeth from another newbie member. I just recently had just 1 Bresse hatch. Eggs bought from France, (I'm in Ireland) so knew there was a pretty low chance of hatching any but my 1 little Bresse is so sweet, 2.5 weeks old now,. Have 2 older chicks (almost 4 weeks) brown...
Ok, so have spoken to the person I got the chicks from and he says he hatched cream legbars and brown leghorns. Ive looked them up and the chicks of both look very alike so I'm still none the wiser. They're growing fast though and such beautiful, friendly, intelligent birds. Think I'm hooked...
