It was up to my mom and if I don't agree she starts yelling and then I have to tell her not to yell outside so the other neighbors don't hear her. I suggested wringing it's neck away from the other chickens, but mom said no. And if I continue to suggest an idea that she does not agree with she...
Sugar is doing okay. Where I lanced.. It could be healing? Or not..? The skin is turning hard and curling inwards, I tried re-lancing it but it's a bit tough. No more juice is coming out, in fact I poked around with the tweezers and it seems it's drying up in there. I grabbed a hold of something...
Culling chicks is supa tough.. And this Saturday mom and I are going to the animal auction so we will stop by Van Dam Farms or Hemy-Hay.
She's acting a little funny today. Not socializing much and she doesn't chase after the roos or the pullets (she chases after the pullets too if they bump...
I was thinking it was Mareks too. Unfortunately no, mine aren't. Last year when I first got chickens I got them from an auction, 8 babies. I never really learned about chicken diseases till later on. The cochins were bought from a ranch, my mom doesn't want to buy anymore chickens from there...
Why yes, yes she is.
Ehh, today isn't my day. Just had to cull a cochin. She couldn't stand on her legs.. I found her in the coop on her side, at first I thought she was dustbathing, but no. She probably didn't get any food or water today. Mom even tried to give her water and she wouldn't...
It's not over, sadly. There's a bad smell coming from the bump and brown stuff is coming out now. So I picked more stuff out... It was a dark red almost black, now those chunks are brown and smell awful
Afterwards I washed it out with a saline solution and applied neosporin. She's with my dad...
Thanks all. Wow just a week or 2 ago I thought she was gonna die... Phew.
Sugar has been making alot more noise aswell. Her chicken noises are kinda funny sounding, but she's making that weird noise hens would make it the morning when they need to lay eggs.
I'm not sure she will be laying eggs...
Unfortunately no. I'm looking for a pedi-thingy someone posted before. I saw one at petsmart but it was expensive. Anyone know of a similar product that works well for an affordable price?
Her energy level is quite well. I let her and Skippy out of the duck enclosure today. One of the young cockerels tried to mate with her and... Lol. She got away from him and then chased him with her wings up (like a mad broody basically) and flanked him. Another young cockerel also mounted her...
By August she will be a year old. Actually her previous owners were pretty nice people. They run a horse rescue. Sugar was in that cage because the lady didn't want any of the other chickens hurting her. Plus I don't think she looks quite normal for a bantam buff orpington, but I think she looks...
I don't feel it in her earlobe anymore but she's kinda swollen in her chin area. Is the way she behaves because she might be retarded? All I know is that where we got her from, the lady kept her in a kind of dark cage type thing with shavings for flooring and with a blind hen. I remember she...
Yeah I'm afraid to clip her nails too cuz last time I went down too far and it bled I tried filing aswell.. I guess I don't have any heavy duty filers. How do "normal" chickens keep their nails down? Her activity levels are quite low.. Even with her little bursts of energy.
She came from a...
Here are some pics. The stuff I picked out with some new tweezers I got, it has something like a livery texture. And it came out very easily, I also used a saline solution to wash any extra stuff out. There was some really dark blood coming from no where in there. My mom says chicken blood is...
I'm hoping whatever it is didn't decide to change locations, something ball-like is swelling up in her left earlobe.
I know I'm supposed to get pics up, but it's such a hot day, days like this I only go outside to shift positions of the sprinklers and misters.
Sorry I haven't been updating! Mom took a look at Sugar today and she's pretty sure the stuff coming is dead blood, she says that because when it comes out on a tissue it's really dark and it's kinda thick.. We both agree that the black thing needs to come out. My dad is a little iffy to take...
I used a saline solution but nothing came out nor did it go in far. I think all that is left is the black mass. Also some parts of her skin is turning a purple-ish color.
The black thing is like menstrual goop.. Just a ball of it. I'll get some pics in as soon as I can.
