I keep mine rotated, my cartons are labeled O at one end for oldest and N at the other end for newest when an egg gets used the rest gets moved down the carton so the oldest always get used first. New cartons go under the old carton. Basic food safety, FIFO first in, first out.
And I keep my...
All six of my slw chicks are starting to get a little green in their tail feathers,... I have a bunch of roo's don't I?? they are about 7 weeks old here. (only 3 are pictured but they all look the same)
He was the runt when I got them, is there something wrong with him? I notice his wings go way past the end of his body and none if the other chickens are like that.
Then you probably either #1 didn't go quite far enough, I wasn't at first because I was scared, or #2 you have girls. You will know the penis if you see it lol.
I successfully vent sexed mine after watching this. My pekins are two female and two male. My khaki campbells were a little harder, but I think they're both female.
how about mine, I'm thinking Pekin, just got them from tsc, I wasn't really planning on getting ducks I have only raised chickens but the kids have been asking for ducks for YEARS.
So I think I have this now, the right one is a cockerel and the left is a pullet correct? If so then I have 3 and 3 including the little runt I picked out that I really wanted to be a pullet . All 3 pullets seem to be feathering out faster, they already have tails, but so does the runt which...
I have some baby chicks, has anyone given their chicks any kombucha? I thought about adding a little to their water like ACV, or should I just stick with the bragg's?
I also make homemade kombucha, would that be better, worse or about the same to add? could I do both? I have read the scoby is good to give chickens but I have no idea about chicks... I may search for a kombucha thread if there is one. (sorry to be so random I just got started back here.)
I plan to pretty soon, they are only about one week right now, we just got them sunday. I do have free range ladies out there so is there a certian age I should hold off for or does it matter? I haven't had chicks for 4 years so I don't remember everything I researched the first time.
I started putting some bragg's in my chicks water, about 1 tsp for their quart of water does that sound right? I didn't get medicated feed and I figured it was a good way to prevent sickness. Also, I have some raw honey, I considered adding a tsp of it also, thoughts?
