Antibiotics are done and we still have a sneezing, molting duck with a TON of energy. She's nearly impossible to catch even in the run! I've started giving her and the hens some black oil sunflower seeds for extra protein. I guess she's just going to do what she's going to do and we will go from...
Just a quick update. She is, date I say, marginally better! She seems to be sneezing less and her quack sounds much more normal the past couple days time will tell, still have a week or abx left.
I hope that's the case but I would think it would bother her mostly when inside. She does this after she's been out for hours. She looks terrible right now because of her molt but she's still acting fine. My vet did say it would take up to a week for her to really start showing any noticeable...
The office just called with the fecal results and they were negative. Not much help there, but at least I know if she did have anything to begin with, the de-wormer worked lol.
I've already done a course of Tylan, that could be why. She has studied avian medicine for quite some time so I trust her judgement a little ,ore than my farm vets for the duck lol
The vet feels it may be a Mycoplasma and is hoping it's not Aspergillosis. Sending a fecal out and starting doxy for 2 weeks. She was very honest in saying if the doxy doesn't clear it up with everything else that's been tried, it's likely fungal. If there is no improvement by the end of...
Hmm I sure wish my farm vet would have told me about the Baytril/not eating eggs. I love our duck eggs for baking and with no way to tell who laid what..I guess no more duck eggs for me
I'm headed home to try and catch my girl after putting a 1/2in staple in my hand and hitting my medial nerve. This should be fun! @JadeComputerGal do you want to give me a list of symptoms and attempted treatments that I can tell the vet? I know you've posted them previously but I won't have a...
@JadeComputerGal Absolutely not, you have to do what you feel is right. Many vets just don't know enough about birds to properly treat them IMO. Doxy is a nasty antibiotic, and while it does have it's place, I know it has some bad side effects in humans. I'm hoping that since the vet I'm...
Yes, lady would have been correct hehe. They free range all day so who knows what they're eating. I'm hoping I can get her in today or tomorrow, I'll find out when they open in a couple hours. As it is, I can hear her making her noise from the house right now. The other one is still normal...
This is the "odd sounding duck with crazy issues" thread now, so feel free to hijack lol. I really hope your girl starts feeling better soon. Can ducks get infected or plugged oil glands? My girl looks and feels oretty normal feather wise other than she's molting like crazy and it looks like a...
Well, spending a while outside today building a new run for the girls, I can definitely say that ms. Duck is NOT better. She's still active but sneezing sneezing sneezing. Ugh...I don't know what to do now..
Lol I got her to take the de wormer fairly easily with the 1ml syringe inserted into her esophogus. She's heavily molting and is now trying to hatch every egg she can lol. She's quacking better but still sneezing occasionally. She's acting much better as well. One day left of the antibiotics so...
I feel I could easily handle tubing her, but she seems,to be getting the fluid by syringe ok, it just takes a little longer. The syringe I have for the oral meds is too big so I wind up putting the tip of it in the corner of her bill and dose her a little at a time to allow her to swallow it...
No pics tonight. It went fairly wel other than the fact she decided,to start molting heavily today lol. She is back to squeaking instead of phlegm, which I guess is good. Dissolving the de wormer doesn't work very well so I will have to try something new tomorrow. Oh, and just in case anyone was...
I'll be golden. I can hit a vein better than most vets! hehe Thank you soo much for all of your help! I'll try and get some pics of the poor girl tonight.
