...coop, run, or pen?
I had a bad experience buying an adult Phoenix roo a few months back (as mentioned in an earlier post, people will sell you *anything* around here, including a dying rooster infested with worms) so my husband and I had decided to avoid buying birds in the future when...
Not sure what's confusing?
I appreciate the condolences, it did suck and was a hard lesson but we all have to learn. Hoping for a smooth remainder of the hatch.
Tossed. The chick was almost there, less than a week to go. But definitely smelled terrible. I am so bummed. I hope for a normal remainder of this frankenhatch!! What was I thinking setting eggs during mercury retrograde amirite :D
I just candled and am extremely sad to say the most important egg in here, which was from a Cemani hen that went intersex after a major illness, smells off and appears to be sunken at the bottom. My irritation with the woman who sold me the early birds has multiplied :/ I don't want to remove it...
Query for anyone out there: I can't get my humidity down in the incubator. Was hoping to give the eggs some nice dry days to help correct for keeping the humidity high for the last few. I live in a very humid climate down south and it's pouring down rain, there's no water in any of the trays and...
I saw her peck a lot at the crumble I dropped on the floor of the "brooder" aka giant Rubbermaid bin but I haven't seen her drink, although I think she has. I put her beak into water several times but she hasn't seemed to drink a lot yet. I do fermented feed for all of my birds and offered it to...
Lol you can always tell those of us who have that good ol' rural Internet. Thanks JaeG! That gives me hope since Lily is much more sleepy since she's freshly hatched.
Ugh just posted an update, it double posted, I deleted the duplicate and both are gone *eye roll*
Chick #4 (Lily) has hatched and appears healthy. But Lotus immediate took to pecking at her, so they were separated which is sad because I was so eager for Lotus to have a homie. I'm going to...
Updating: Chick #4 (Lily) has hatched and appears healthy, but Lotus is pecking at her a lot, so I separated them and will be implementing some of these changes tomorrow morning:

The 3 other eggs remain in the incubator, but I have...
Cochins are so amazing, I have my eye on some bantam cochins but the farm is actually responsible and not selling their eggs until they can assure fertility. Splash cochins are a super fav and cochins in general seem to have a lot of attitude / personality! Which I love :)
Thank you puffypoo!! She is adorable and #4 is chirping a bunch, so here's hoping for her (but trying not to set myself up for disappointment).
Redhead Rae I would looooooove to have multiple incubators because then heck yes I'd be stacking!! But I currently just use one Hova Bator Genesis and...
Thank you guys so much, it's been really nice to have some support all the way thru.
The eggs were pretty clean, some with a bit of poo but they do come out of a butt, after all ;) I bought several different eggs from several different people and they didn't seem any dirtier than usual? :( I...
The two birds from last night died almost immediately, apparently both were mushy. I'm super sad and progressively more irritated with the woman who sold me these eggs, especially for a first hatch. We have definitely learned that in terms of the local poultry world, cash is king and people will...
Update! Two more chicks were born overnight with quite a bit of assistance but they appear healthy despite this wild ride lol. I still required they broke the majority of their own egg, so I could notice enough strength, and once they had a little start in the right direction they wriggled free...
I do think I exposed too much of the membrane but the humidity is up at 70-72% and I am adding moisture to the membrane as needed. I am shocked it could be another 48 hours from now!! I was aware it takes much longer when they pip in the wrong location but since it had already been 36 hours or...
Quick facts about this egg
•pipped yesterday probably around noon
•has not been peeping much
•is malpositioned and pipping at the small end
•has been sticking her beak out and panting with her tongue flapping and neck bobbing, totally different from the other chick. Rarely peeping.
At around...
