THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

Yep, that's how I roll. *LOLOLO I think I just stumbled onto that same slippery slope you're on. Well, I wasn't about to pay $2,000 for those Ayam pair from Green Fire Farm. Got my eggs the other day, I've got some challenges with them rupture and damage, I guess I'll pay for it either way...

THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

Tonight, I'm putting in some shipped eggs, this is also my first time with shipped eggs. Initial candling of the shipped eggs didn't look good, it's unfortunate. The air cells (ones that can be seen), most of them were distorted; some ruptured and some damaged. Based on observations, almost...

Egg info. on the remaining 3 eggs: I actually started with 24 eggs, 12 of them came from my backyard stock and the other 12 came from a friend of mine, who came to visit and drove here. After 1st candling, 4 of the eggs from my friend were not fertilize so they went into the trash. All mine were...

THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

Day 22 dilemma: Today marks the 22nd day of incubation and I got 3 eggs that hasn't hatched. Out of 20 fertile eggs, 17 has hatched and these 3 little guys have yet to budge. What are my options left and should I candle them to see if there's sign of life? What can I do to learn from this...

...little crowded in there so I took all 10 of them out into the brooder and left the 3 that just hatched in the bator to dry/gather their strength. *happy chickee campers. In summary, 13 has hatched by day 20. I got 7 left to go, but they may have hatched by the time I get home this...

Great feedback! Well, I guess I don't feel so bad taking them out. Thanks again for the edification.

THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

...I went to candle again and for the most part, 20 out of 24 were solid black, which means the growing chick is filling up that egg pretty solidly. *feeling ecstatic However, the other 4 eggs were a little depressing and puzzling. The #1 egg from above still looks the same, not much has...

The great thing about BYC is, there's even a product review forum... I found the comments/ feedback from BYC'ers very useful / informative. https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/brinsea-octagon-20-eco-auto-turn-egg-incubator

Charmin' Candler! lol -using a bear to charm a chick. lol I have to agree, hopefully egg #1 will display some signs of life on day 14th. Candling is pretty exciting, I can empathize with that "slippery slope" comment you mentioned earlier. Now if we can just put a fast forward...

...#3) below is an egg that's really developing and you can visibly see, what looks like the head of the chick, which was moving during candling. Can't wait to candle again on day 14th. *psssst.. if you have a must want to know the brand of candler I'm using, I'd be happy to share as well.

Thanks for the quick response. This personal brooding is hazardous to one's health. After watching the RH and temp. swinging back/forth for a week, I was starting to get a little delirious and chick-anxiety. Probably just too much time on my hands... lol. Thanks again for the great knowledge...

THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

hi scflock, Tonight is my 7th day so I will be doing some candling to see progress on the eggs. The weather has been a bit bipolar outside so I find it challenging to keep the humidity at a constant %, seems like constant humidity is a challenge for many on the Eco. Not sure on affects it has...

I think you're good to go if you didn't mess with it like "some" of us. Good luck with your eggs.

THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

Hi silkiecuddles, Don't take my word for it but that is how mine is turned as well (for easier reading). Per Brinsea, as long as the heat-sensor part of the glass thermometer that comes with the incubator is directly underneath the fan, this will give the most accurate temp. reading. As for...

THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

Update: I called Brinsea support yesterday. They told me the heat sensor (black/blue) part of the glass thermometer needs to be directly under the fan to get a correct temp. reading. So I made sure of this adjustment. However, my digital thermometer and humidity gauge (see below; left side of...

Well, the plan was to put the eggs in the bator tonight but didn't pan out as plan so hoping to do it tomorrow afternoon sometime. The delay was rather interesting after running this bator in test mode for the last 3 days and stabilizing on near 99.5 degrees. A last minute adjustment on the...

Great advice, I'll keep an eye on the RH for this batch and experiment with it next batch. I agree, can be addicting, I'm going to get my kids involved too, should be exciting. 5th batch? wow! Hope you've got enough coop for them. lol

THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

I am not entirely sure on the target humidity but based on what I've read, the RH should be kept close to 45% so this is the magic number I'm hoping to maintain. I live in OK, it's Spring time right now and the weather is perfect (aside from the sporadic brewing tornadoes), it's not too wet or...

Hi scflock, Thanks for the great advice. I do have a hygrometer and am planning to use it solely to measure the humidity. So in short, fill up the channel as necessary to maintain humidity. I guess I just need to hear it in plain English, maybe it's too obvious in the UK.
