Three hours this morning. The torrential downpours this afternoon were forcasted so morning time out in the mostly dry seemed the best bet. Sure enough it pissed down this afternoon. We had thunder and lightning and some very spectacualr cloud formations. They went out to eat for maybe 15...
One and a half hours this morning and one and a half this afternoon.
It's been raining not hard but on and off most of the day, just enough to turn the day dreary. It's got chilly with it 7C with wind.
We all got out both times despite the light drizzle.
The chicks have been pairing up, like...
The probability is they will all have to go within a very narrow time frame.
An unfortunate fact about same hatch mulitple cockerels is some, not all, form gangs and terrorise the hens and piss the roosters off.
I've had both. It was bad enough with gangs free ranging, at the field there is no...
An hour this morning and two hours this afternoon. It stayed dry at around 12C.
From the morning.
Henry has found himself a new nest.
This afternoon. That;s full size mix on the right in the small bowl and crushed mix on the right. The wheat is still just a bit to big for them.
Mow...
The MRI scan before last go cancelled about twenty minutes before the appointment time because the machine broke down. I was already on the bus and not far away.
I was feeding them a bird seed mix to which I added spelt wheat and dried split green peas.

The bird seed mix is good, but by using spelt for the wheat content, reducing the sunflower seeds and replacing the peanut...
An hour this morning and three this afternoon. Dry with sunny spells. Still not exactly warm in the evenings.
The auto pop door worked this morning so that's one problem less.
I make the chick feed in a deep plastic jug with a hand blender now. I got tired of chopping.:p I might try a semi dry mash.
Got there at 9.30 am to let them out. Spent a couple of hours there and went home. Back again at 5 pm until 8.30 pm.
I got the auto pop door fitted and working again.
I found this when I got there this morning.
Looks like a rat tried to gnaw its way in. The inside of the coop was a mess so it may have got in but it wasn't there when I opened up. They didn't seem too put out about being kept in the coop for so long. I wedged the pop door open for the day...
It's finally happened.:clap
If she's having problems with the senior hens you may find moving her to a maternity unit worthwhile. What do you mean you haven't got one!:th:D
Perris mentions shutting her in during the day which works if you're prepared to take her off the nest to bathe, eat, etc...
All afternoon basically. Got a bit done on the plot. Watched a lot of chicken TV. Cool with a bit of sun.
My first plot veg. I don't know why but everything bolts. I got the spinach mainly because I cut the flowers off the top of the plants. Even the corriander has bolted.
More dad...
An odd day. I couldn't go to the field this morning. I spent the afternoon there from around 1pm with a half hour break for tea in the village.
I took them some blueberries and ham for supper. I took enough to make sure everybody got one. Giving them directly to the chicks would not only...
