Saw a chicken vet last night. Diva has peritonitis. I have 2 weeks of antibiotics, lasix and meloxicam to give her and then we will check to see if the fluid is gone. Vet says the egg problem may reverse after the infection and fluids are gone.
Well, the vet I saw on Friday used to have chickens but really knew nothing. She was very nice and didn’t charge me. She called yesterday to see how she’s doing and wants me to keep her in the loop.
Tomorrow at 6 I am going to an actual poultry vet that grew up on a farm. Her specialty is...
Oh, forgot to post the pic from just now. The white spots in the albumen are a different consistency than the original ones. Those were creamy/pasty and these are like a gel
Since the last time I posted, we haven’t had much luck. 14 days of pills and layer boost in a separate waterer and we’ve had one intact, hard shelled egg. No pigment to speak of. The rest of the days were nothing or soft shell. I’ll call the vet tomorrow and see what she says.
Thanks for letting me know I can extend it. I will keep it up for another week or so, then go with backing off.
If it keeps up, I’d there a shot or something they can give her to stop producing? I don’t know what this is doing to her physically.
We got an egg this afternoon. 🥰
Day before yesterday she dropped a porcelain thin egg from the roost bar and it shattered on impact with the edge of the poop board. Today we got this!
Found this on a poop board just now. There was a small bit of yolk and lots of albumin. I think it was whole but shell-less. It tore when I took it off the board.
There was a smaller bit of the creamy white matter which is soft and is the same color all the way through. Should I just start with...
And not sure if this matters, but last week, she laid the little almost white egg. It’s shown next to an egg from her hatch mate. They both laid identical eggs until she went tiny and forgot to color it. I cracked it into a bowl and it looks good but I threw it all out just in case.
No, I threw it out but before I did I cut it and smooshed one side- it was creamy- the same texture and color all the way through.
If she does it again tomorrow I’ll be better prepared to pick it up cleanly and get good shots. Thank you, and I’m hoping it’s not lash material.
Today I just found a lining but no yolk. I have included a picture of what was there. Much more lining than yesterday ands I don’t know if there was a yolk that the others ate but I doubt it because they didn’t touch the double yolks yesterday. What is the creamy blob? And sorry for the dirt
I thought it might be good to post a follow up. We spent the last few weeks feeding bowls of feed gruel to her- and anyone else that liked it. The cleaning and topical antibiotic went on for 10 days. She didn’t lose any weight and has been pooping and laying normally. Just yesterday she...
One of my 8 month old GLW’s has stopped laying but visits the nest box, spends a couple of hours rearranging and singing to herself, and then comes out happy as a clam. But no egg.
She was the last to start laying in late January/early February.
Should I be worried about egg binding? She’s...
