She's nice!!! Here is what I have so far...
One of my black hens.
My splash hen.
Another black and a blue hen with my blue rooster on the right. Not sure what to do with him and I don't think I will use him for my BBS breeding.
Glad I read some posts before posting my question. I wondered about the same thing with a blue rooster I have with red leaking. I am keeping black, blue and splash Cochins for my program. I also want to experiment on trying for something like this Cochin as a side project:
Which is why I...
First picture of new chicks!!! Mom is being so good. First one was hatched late on Friday and I 'think' she has 3 in there right now. There were 5 eggs so maybe two more??? Who knows? :) I put her box down on the lower level but she hasn't offered to take them out yet.
Thank you. I was actually thinking of doing something like that. I have cat litter containers for boxes so I can move them easily. I think I will move the box once the chicks are born and put everyone into a small fenced area for a few days. :)
I have my first broody hen on day 20 of her egg sitting. She has 5 eggs under her. She has been a good sitter. Funny how that works... production red who isn't supposed to sit. :) My question is, since my broodie is sitting in a laying box and it is up about 3.5 feet, should I move it to...
I would like to maintain a flock as close to the standard as possible and then develop/enhance two rare colors. I really like the Lemon Pyle and that will be one of my colors. like also gold laced and blue partrige but haven't decided between those 2 yet.
Thanks so much for your reply and the information. I'll look into Rays Marans. If you ever think about it, could you get information on the Brahama breeder in Montgomery County?? Again, thank you.
Looking for rare color Brahma chickens to start a breeding program. I'm in NW PA. 45 acre farm. We pretty much free range our chicken right now but I want to get into some serious breeding. I have investigated most of the breeds and Brahma chickens are the way I want to go.

My Lakenvelders are late for this time of the year so they will spend a comfortable winter in the house. They are about 8 weeks right now. Here is a picture of my roo, Bruce Henner.
