@notabitail -- let pastel know she's missed & so sad about her roo! Hope there's a good home for him. Its really hard to re-home the roo's. And YAY for the Lav Orp Amethyst!
TY for the Silkies comment. And, yes, Silkies are very special and almost every chicken keeper can't resist having a few -- turned out to be our favourite birds. We started out with two Silkies as pets almost 13 yrs ago, added & cycled thru several standard size breeds, but always kept 2 or 3...
I Know! It shocked us too! All her eggs are that beautiful brown. We got all our newest Silkies as DNA-sexed chicks from Buckaboo Farm:

Nasty weather! Our Santa Ana Winds can sometimes get up to 100 mph gusts and rip up the yard!
MIKA layed her first brown egg 1.25-oz May 22
KEIKO layed her first tinted egg 1.25-oz today
Next step, one more Silkie pullet to lay and then the fun begins to see if all 3 go notoriously broody!
By the time all the fuss we went thru trying to get Orbit misters to work, replacing a hose and nozzles, we nixxed the small filter route -- our water is too hard for smaller filters. We had one installed under our kitchen sink designed to be good for a year was corroded in 3 months. -- just...
These were the very exact Orbit misters we got -- 3 of them and everyone clogged up -- we bought new nozzles and still they clogged up from our hard minerals Calif outdoor tap water. When the nozzles got clogged the couplers leaked and flooded the yard. I mean, go ahead and use them if they...
At first walking funny goes to Mareks symptom but if she's vaccinated that may not be it. The fact that she's dustbathing can be an attempt on her part to mask a malady -- animals are good at hiding illnesses. You're a good owner so I'm sure you'll keep watching her. :love
Loss of appetite...
I've had such hard Silkie broodies we had to feed & water by hand in the nestbox or they'd waste away. If I took them off the nest to eat or drink they'd just stare at it and immediately go sulk somewhere or run back to the nest. But feed 'em in the nestbox & they ate! I think really good...
The coop was custom-built by a feed store customer who show-cased it in the store. We bought it immediately & the feed store delivered it and placed it on the spot for us. It was much larger and heavier than the flimsy put-it-together yourself pet store coops.
It is one-of-a-kind custom-built...
Oh, he made such a nice setup for your yard!:thumbsup
My mom taught me to not say anything when DH gives advice or doesn't do a job to my liking -- compliment him instead. DH's like to be appreciated and eventually find themselves enjoying chickens! My DH never lived on a farm like me but he...
What a nice gift! We have one like that with a mesh wire shelf at the bottom for almost 10 years. Walmart had an end summer sale & we got the bigger one for $20. These cost way more today. Perfect for summer cookout just for two of us -- pork chops, wrapped potatoes or garden veggies, bacon...
Our garage gets hotter than the house even with the garage door open so it's not an option for us to put chickens in there.
My DH chose to have chickens so he takes care of them w/me. I fell and broke my arm big bone in May so he took off work to care for me AND the chickens this past month. I...
I've seen tails get bent in nestboxes or roosting against a wall but Danni's tail was weird. It straightened somewhat as she matured. The breeder didnt think it was an issue but if I were to show her she'd never qualify!
