I have two coops side by side. My flocks have dwindled in numbers (coyotes, hawks, etc) so I’m wondering if I tear one of the coops down will the chickens that normally roost in there instinctively go to the other coop? There’s only one rooster so that shouldn’t be a problem. It’s just that the...
I’ve had success with the tomcat boxes but now that doesn’t seem to be working. I need help. I need something for my coop. I’m going to get different feeders so there’s less waste but I need something that will kill mice/rats. And if you have a better idea for feeders than pvc let me know. Thanks!
I bought the Pekin ducks from tractor supply as chicks. The older they’re getting the more two of them look different. The larger one (he was older the day I bought them) is white with a yellow bill. The other two look more brownish and their bill isn’t yellow like his. I feed all the the same...
Ok good people, please come to the rescue once again. I need to know what kind of bantam this is. The light is coming from a brooder lamp so please excuse but he/she is mainly black and yellow, from tractor supply.
I recently hatched 12 eggs and they came from: rooster (buff Orpington and Plymouth based rock)..hen (buff Orpington, barred rock, golden comet). I have two that are almost white. Not blonde but white. Which breed would have caused this? Just asking out of curiosity, trying to learn as much as...
It came from tractor supply straight run, multiple breeds in one tub. It’s very docile and somewhat of a loner…If that helps. I realize it’s under the brooder lamp light so it may be a little difficult to see the real colors. Thanks.
I have 3 that are basically inseparable. All 3 have gone missing in the past 2 days. If one has become broody and nesting privately somewhere is it possible that the other 2 would hang around as well? I know it’s possible that all 3 fell to predation but on the same day I think would be...
I have a young cockerel that has roosted with his brothers, sisters and mama since they were old enough to get on the roost (along with his aunts and papa). The past few nights I’ve noticed he’s bunked up in the other coop with the other flock and he’s sleeping on the ground. The first night I...
So I’ve noticed one of my hens will sit down and the rooster will stand over her/beside her. It’s in different locations. He’s not mating her, he’s not even necessarily standing in the same direction. Is he just providing her some shade? The last time she was in a corner (where my porch and wall...
I’ve got a broody BO (she’s only been laying since January and I read that’s rare to be broody so young)…anyway… She’s in one of the nest boxes I built which is about 10”-12” off the ground. My question is: once/if she hatches eggs, is that too high for her little ones to follow her out once she...
She’s in the brooder right now with 2 week old chicks because she’s getting pushed around by the others her age. She is the biggest scaredy-cat I have. Anyone know what by breed she is? She’s not even standing up to the chicks that are 4 weeks younger.
One of my hens (the biggest one) is doing a lot of mouth breathing. She’s always been the biggest one, and temps have risen here but not above 75. She’s acting totally normal in all aspects. Should I be concerned?

I’ve got a BO hen. Her body looks swollen and she’s limping. Just from a quick Internet search either bumble foot or egg lodged? She’s about 22 weeks and the flock just started laying this week. I’m gonna check her feet. It has been raining for the past several days. Don’t know if that helps...
Here’s the deal: I originally bought 12 chicks (9 girls and 3 boys). I was afraid I works lose some during the raising process so I got 3 boys. As luck would have it, not only did all 3 survive, the hatchery sent me a 13th chick….a boy of course. So, now that I’ve gotten every one of them raised...
