We live in FL and were thinking of doing a similar design with wind/rain protection on three sides and a roof across 1/2 of the top portion and aviary netting on the other half.
I did look on Craigslist and didn't find much. The Craigslist here sucks, everything is crappy and overpriced. What I did find was too big, overrun with grass and weeds and would be difficult for us to transport. I'd rather just pay the $100 more and get something new in the box or in panels...
We live on the North side of Jacksonville, near a large shopping center and close to the airport. There is a less commercial/rural area that people keep livestock close to us.
We live in the "city" and our main predators are cats and dogs. We are thinking of getting a steel/chain link kennel for a run and reinforcing it with 1/4 hardware cloth (already ordered) and pavers/bricks. We have aviary netting for the top and will most likely add a cover or partial roof for...
I have 3 hens laying and got 3 eggs! I have one that should be laying any day now....waiting and my cross beak that will probably never lay but is our pet.

Agreed and they are our pets as well. They are healthy and happy girls (other than my cross beak but even she is doing well considering), the non-cross beak just started laying pink/cream eggs which are lovely. I'm disappointed that I was mislead and now will have a hard time knowing...
Yes, I've heard that - about the hatchery vs feed store. I saw her in the nesting box today and there was another cream/pink egg so now #1 I think she's an Easter Egger #2 I think my Speckled Sussex is still not laying and it's been her this past week or so. LOL! Funny thing is they both have...
I actually think my "Araucana" is laying the cream/pink eggs and not the Speckled Sussex. I've seen her in the nesting box a few times and then shortly after find the cream/pink egg. I'm bummed because I thought she'd lay blue/green eggs as she has green/slate legs and a rose/pea comb :(
My Araucana/Easter Egg (not sure anymore) spent a lot of time in the nesting box the other day but I'm not sure if she left an egg or if it was the Speckled Sussex. It was a creamy-pinkish egg so it's hard to say. The Speckled Sussex only seems to lay every 2-3 days if it was her.
She's finally putting on weight. I spoil her and give her Greek Yogurt and Steel Cut Oatmeal. She's beautiful and I wish she wasn't scissor beak/cross beak. I'll try to get a close up of her this week. She really needs the top beak trimmed.
I was just out there and they were both squatting for me so I took a peek into the nesting box and all the hay was pushed around. As I approached I saw a perfectly creamy white egg!!! I think I'll be adding some blue eggs to this picture in the next couple of weeks too!
Spin off question: my...
