My first ever hatch is over. 6/19: 5 Marans; 1 SFH. Dry incubation is good for Marans, not so great for SFH or Cream Legbar.
Marans looks like 2black, 2 blue and a blue splash maybe-? The one SFH is feisty as all get out!
Behold the cuteness…
I opened them and they were dead. One looks to have quit before lockdown (green egg) and was very wet.
Total hatched was 6 so I’m counting those blessings.
It’s day 22. I had a BC1 OE pip half down on the egg- I didn’t put a safety hole but should have. Opened air cell and it was dead, fully formed. I think it suffocated while zipping.
I put safety holes in 4 remaining eggs with internal pips at 10:00 AM est, only one had movement beforehand when...
I had a stuck chick that pipped at the wrong end. After no progress for 30 hours chirping stopped. 🥺 I removed part of shell and small flap of membrane over the beak, and oiled it up with coconut oil. An all night vigil and lil baby hatched early today. 🥹The lil chick had a few companions, too...
We have babies!!!! :wee
2 BBS Marans hatched overnight. Looks like one is a Blue :D They are lively and playing bocce with the 9 unhatched eggs, now pushed to the edges. No ext pips on others atm
It’s lockdown day for my first ever hatch. I have 11 viable going in lockdown. This is a dry incubation, RH ave 25-35. Even so, two Marans have 14 day air cells- nothing I can do about that.
The BC Olive, Swedish Flowers and Opal/Cream Legbars look great!
I bumped humidity to 65-70%
Is that...
I am really interested to see what your Isbar mix will look like- and eventually lay.
I have one Bielefelder roo over Isbar (black Silverudds Blue) hen from my flock incubating with my purchased eggs (BBS Marans, Swedish Flower, Opal Cream Legbar and F1 MarsBar (Marans-Legbar).
Getting closer. :wee
Quick question though. I will pick up my eggs on Friday evening. ( they’ll be collected during this week by the breeder)
It’s a one hour drive back from the farm, so do you all think letting them rest for just 16 hours before setting will be ok?
Hello!!! The stars have aligned and I am able to join the Hatch along this year!!
:wee
I found a reputable small farm breeder with fertile BBS Marans and Swedish Flower Hen eggs. I pick them up March 9– how lucky is that!?!?!
Time to invest in a better candler for dark eggs. 😊
I’m looking...
