I ordered 100 Bobwhite eggs to hatch out. When i received them I got 110. Out of that, 18 were cracked and had really thin shells, also the were very yellow in color. No big deal, still had 92 eggs. They should be hatching on or around the 10th, I have them in an egg turner, temp is perfect in...
Hoping to have my Bobwhite eggs by the end of the week here. Ordered 100, ordered 100 last year made the bad, bad, mistake of putting them in the egg turner pointed end up. I had no clue that was the wrong way. So lesson learned and we'll give it another shot here as soon as the eggs arrive.
I have seen them caught in a live trap like you're talking about. My old neighbor was a bird fanatic. I remember him doing as your grandfather suggested. He had straw bales and stacked them over the trap, covering the openings (he had a big live trap that the animal could enter from either end)...
I had a mink get 6 chickens and 6 ducks in one night. It basically tore the necks open and ate a little of the bird. I have heard of mink/weasels tearing the throat open and drinking the blood, then leaving the rest of the bird alone. If it is of the weasel family the best way to go about...
Had a Coopers hawk try and fly off with one of my full grown Mallard drakes once, he made it a little ways down my driveway with me chasing and yelling at him. Don't know if I scared him or the duck was to heavy, but he made it about 100 feet and 20 feet up before he dropped him. Duck was fine...
We hatched them out from eggs we bought last year, the adds just said "farm duck" hatching eggs. I'm still going back and forth on ordering some call duck eggs to hatch out. I am really wanting to get Wood ducks, Mandarins, Pintail and Teal ( I have state and federal game farm permits) but...
I leave mine for a day or so, until they are almost if not completely dry and fluffed up. I haven't had any problems yet with them running around and bumping the other unhatched eggs (knock on wood) where it has caused any hatching problem.
Here is one of our roosters, not sure of the breed, if anyone knows or can tell, please do! I have another that looks just like him, but he has a tall comb on the his head.
I keep mine right in our barn. What I found work best for me was using a galvanized trash can with a lid. The lid fits nice and tight and they hold 100 lbs of feed. Only had a problem one time and that was last spring we had a bear go in the barn after the feed I have for our deer, guess he...
We have a couple of ducks right now and I have been wanting to add Wood Ducks, Pintail and Mandarins. Does any one know of or sell hatching eggs for these? I have found plenty of places where I can purchase live birds, but I'm not really 100% confident in the shipping of live birds, never had it...
