I have only done 2 chicken hens and neither acted like anything was wrong. They were both adult size at the time and still have the tie wraps on I do check them every once in a while .
I just saw someone else ask about this last week so if you start a new thread and ask maybe someone who uses them will reply. Biggiest problem I have seen is people forget about them and then they have grown into the legs of their birds ouch.

You def don't want your drake going after the young females. At 7 weeks old I have never had a drake that young going after any females Here it has always been the females get hormonal around 4 months and start chasing the drake around excluding Muscovy who mature later.
Those pictures are so precious. I wonder if when Frankie is outside is there a way to use a boot on him to protect his foot? As for if he is in pain. I don't know that answer. He looks to be growing well, does he eat well? I usually base my thoughts on how is the duck or goose or chicken acting...
