Congratulation! 🥳
How Many duxlings did she hatched?
waiting to find out… saw 2 so far, but i’m afraid to move her around too much while others are still hatching. yesterday i did see one that looks to be partially hatched out but the shell looks kind of crushed. i picked that one up for a minute and held it and looked at it for movement and listened to it for a heartbeat and smelled it, I really don’t know. I think it might be dead, but I’m not sure so I put it back under her. Today is day 27, we will see what happens. There were five eggs under her. I had started with six but one of them was not fertile so i took that one out early on.
I don’t really know what to do my instincts tell me to leave her alone, but I really want to see what’s underneath her. I did set up little duckling feeder and water near the dog crate but I don’t think any of them came out yet.

aha so this morning i figured I better check on what’s actually happening under Stella and see if that sort of crushed looking egg was OK. I found two live duckies fully hatched, and one in the process of hatching. It was zipping ! also found two dead crushed ones so I took the dead ones out and the pile of poop from one corner then let Stella back in.
how long can the two that hatched yesterday go without water and food?
It looks like they are trying to eat the tiny pieces of fine straw in the nest box.
Also what are the chances the one that’s zipping now could get crushed? should i do anything about it? The other two that were crushed had partially zipped before they got crushed and died. I have a brooder still set up from my five week old ducklings which are no longer using it. This is my hen Stella’s first time ever hatching. she’s a chocolate orpington hen ( chicken) Should I take the live ones out and put them in there? What if Stella crushes them too is that possible? @New duck mommy 2021 Have you ever hatched ducklings with a chicken? @Miss Lydia i know you did, i’m thinking about taking the ducklings away from her, brooding them myself. and letting my hen go back outside to live like a chicken again

Can't believe how fast goslings grow!!! Here they are at about 5-6 weeks.

Update * Looks like the one that was hanging in the balance made it out of the shell without being crushed! I just did a quick check. <3
so now we have 3 new lings

Stella crushed a 3rd duckling (after it hatched) so I snatched up the 2 live ones and put them in my brooder. Poor Stella I put her outside with her flock and she got jumped by hen #3 (3rd in rank out of only 3 hens) I guess #3 thought it was her chance to take over bossy lady position. She had a mouthfull of feathers so I put her in solitary.
Poor Stella. It was her first time. At least 2 babies lived. :)
