You would need to check your states division of wildlife. Most times it is illegal unless you have a license and certain criteria have to be met. Google your states Div of Wildlife and you should be able to find some answers. Kristi
EARLY! they fly early! LOL! Not far but far enough to get out of a brooder! And they will end up all over the place- on your curtain rods, on the top of your dresser, BEHIND the dresser. Everywhere- little quail everywhere...

winstonsgrrrl pm me your contact info. i have a friend who lives in Marion who may take them off your hands but I will tell you- she'll use them for dog training. If I wasn't already busy this weekend I'd come down and get them but we've got alot going. Kristi
Ok thank you very much! The other three aren't like that so I thought something miight be wrong. My Barred Rocks are Thelma and Louise and before her comb flopped over I couldn't tell them apart. Maybe she decided to distinguish herself for me...lol....Thanks again! Kristi
We noticed yesterday that the comb on one of our Barred Rock hens was flopping over to the side. She's six months old and been laying for about 2 weeks-last day she laid was Friday. She's eating, drinking and perky. Her comb is pretty much flopped over to the side.
We had below freezing temps...
I get one on occasion out of my one pen that houses jumbo's and a tibetan. I think it's out of one of the jumbos cause it's big. It's mostly white- with a spot or two here and there. Weird but looks the same inside! Kristi
yep I have a cardboard box i stick in the nest box so they can't crowd in there to sleep...and the roosts are higher than the nest box- but they prefer the nest box....nothing like seeing 4 chickens trying to cram into one nesting box- course part of the Jersey Giant was sticking out into the...
I was going to start a new post but this sounds similar to an issue we're having- as of this morning. Last night my 5 month old Golden Buff was fine- acting normal. Laid a large egg yesterday morning around 6 am. She will lay a large for a few days in a row and then lay these honking big jumbo...
Our coturnix drop them wherever they want....i especially like it when they have them right beside the door and I have to catch an egg as I'm opening the door before it hits the floor....Kristi
Wow Jen!! Nice plans! Now I'm getting more ideas!
OSUman....We don't have electric in the barn so run an extension cord for a light we have hanging right outside of the chicken run. My pullets are only 5 months old and I have two laying so the one light must be enough for the chickens at least...
We have our 4 chickens in a 5 x 15 dog kennel inside our barn.. We have a hutch in the pen with roosts inside and a nesting box. We do have the top tarped since the pen is near the door and on nice days I leave the door open for the birds to get sun and fresh air. I was afraid the hawks could...
Coturnix stink?? No way!! Lololol! We have a batch of quail in the brooder right now....Peeeee Ewwwww! Hubby and I have an agreement...He cleans the brooder and I make the first barn trip at 5:15 in the morning. I'd rather lug a couple gallons of warm water and take care of chickens, quail and...
It was 12 F. here last time I went out to the barn. The Coturnix were fine. One even had the ambition to hop out of the pen while I was breaking ice out of the waterer. Silly bird. They do enjoy the little hay piles I put in the pens for them during the bad cold snaps like this one and the...
