Hi I’m going over this post again. Our due date is Saturday. I incubated in summer last time so dry incubation was relatively easy and I had to fiddle about with tiny bits of water to raise it for last 3 days. Now got a different problem and it’s been going to low so I’ve had to keep adding...
Will copy this advice. We’ve just got into fermenting. We did give her probiotics yogurt, cider vinegar parasite treatments the works. If she wasn’t trying and being so distressed we’d have kept on. We can’t go back and wouldn’t want to still be where we were Friday but thanks for replying and I...
Nothing was in her reproductive tract. Tim found a tiny yellow thing and a bigger one which we presumed were ovaries. He said they looked like yolks. Out two girls are happy and not stressed anymore. Our CCL was so stressed and noisy but Thursday Friday she was running around crazy abd she was...
No none of this applies to her. She didn’t need pulled out of nest. She’d go in for an hour and come out as if she’s laid one. Last week I said she was perfectly happy But then it started to feel like anxiety for her and her behaviour was changing back to being aggressive again. She definitely...
We had to cull her. After the soft egg every day she acted like she was going to lay and egg, she’d sit for a couple hours and do an egg song. Come out and announce it. This went on for 2 weeks. She wasn’t broody as fast as I could see it’s being described, still going round normal activities...
It’s just occurred to me maybe she was broody. We thought she was unwell. She wasn’t in her coop but she was either sitting under a table or in a box. We put her in an Epsom salts bath as thought she may be egg bound. She went to sleep for rest of day and woke up ok except still no eggs. Every...
Yes. She’s trying every day or she she thinks she is everyday. She seems happy to be believing she’s laying so we’re happy if she’s happy . She’s beautiful and we love her and she’s good for the others to snuggle up at night. Plus she’s a pretty good guard chicken. We have 6 more potentials in...
Thanks but she’s only 8 1/2 months old and wasn’t broody. She was more displaying cockerel qualities. Had started crowing. Someone suggested ovary damage. She’s stopped doing that. However I can take form what your saying that anything that disturbs laying can take a while to regulate again.
No not broody. Hasn’t laid for a month. She seemed very unwell a month ago, became rather cockerelish and is now changing back to herself, acting like she’s laid but hasn’t. I can’t find anyone who can help me understand what’s happened and vet knows very little about chicken . I am providing...
Oh exciting and ... terrifying. That wasn’t just me was it. Am just stayed my 3rd batch. We incubated 24 last summer. 8 hatched. We are left with 3. This forum will be invaluable as it can be a rollercoaster ride. But soooo worth it.
On a way more exciting note I candled 6 buff Orpington eggs last night and we have 6 goers day 7! Oh and someone is singing again. Maybe today will be the day!
update on this. After a while of no eggs and increasingly Male like behaviour My Blue copper marans girl has become more hen like, stopped crowing, started flattening again and being easy to pick up, she went through a period of being wild! Every day she does her egg song, sits in the coop...
Hi I have a Blue French copper marans who is 8.5 months old. She’s been laying lovely eggs since February. About a month ago she seemed unwell and we wondered if she was egg bound. Gave her Epsom salts bath and she went to her coop for rest of the day and seemed better but she had stopped...
Hi I’ve posted in another thread but looking for advice. We have an 8 month old French copper Marans that’s been laying perfectly beautiful dark strong eggs. They’re on layers pellets with oyster shell and occasional egg shell but we’ve never seen soft eggs. Then 3 weeks ago she seemed poorly...
So today it looks like she layes this. Their eggs are always strong. Right from get layer feed, oyster shell in the grit and toasted egg shells. She hasn’t layed for 3 weeks. For two day’s she seemed very ill, we thought we lose her. Did Epsom salts bath and mineral drops. She did a HUGE poo...
Good morning. I used the forums a lot last year during the drama of incubation hatching, twice and integrating and losing a lovely pullet and having to cull the cockerels as couldn’t regime them like parents who forgot how bad it all was we’re trying again. weve just been getting along with no...
