No they didnt have anything that I was aware of. They were and are being raised in a 20x 5 run with an attched shed with perching. They are out all day long after there first feeding in the morning of grower, and scratch. Then a noon time snack of grower and scratch with garden scraps and...
I raise orps as well, and honestly, if I had to compare flavor and texture, my orp roos, were not nearly as tough and were actually more flavorful than these meat birds...go figure! LOL:)
After much hype and hullabaloo over these meat birds, I decided to give them a try this year. I ordered around 75 of them. 25 were my parents 10 were a freinds and the rest were for my family. I had heard and read that yes they were slower growing, didnt eat as much, foraged well, and didnt have...
hehehe i guess i did didnt I? However I guess I was hoping for someone to answer who had some "bigger" hens and to tell me sizes so to speak. Pounds? etc. Do Jersey hens get big?
I never thought of Brahma either:P
I have 2 pens with blue orpingtons. My blue roo does quite well with his hens, but the other roo, which is a big black roo, and I do mean BIG, he looks more along the lines of a Jersey Giant than an orp, he is very good with the girls, but hurts them when he mounts. I have saddles on all his...

I don't have them yet, I'll be picking them up on the 15th. I don't know how large they're going to be, but I know they will be big. Does anyone on here have English Orps hatching eggs they'd like to send my way?

I'm not selling eggs but I will have pure English BBS day old...
ok, stupid question? Just what kind of breeding do you have to do to get "bantam" size orps? I mean I never really undertood this, how they took a LF and turned it into bantam size. I know....what a dorky question huh? LOL:lol:
to me...they are testing the waters to see what they can get for their birds. I have seen them on feathers auction, ebay, and of course they have 2 websites I belive. I have e-mailed them for the birds I was interested in and it was an astronomical amount. I dont know about you, but I would not...
thanks for the replys!
Hinkjc- thanks for the info, that makes sense.maybe I should get a book on how to vent sex...hahahaha.....so basically it's just as I thought before, watch and wait hehehehehe!
yea Im guessing I have a few girls myself, "if" the feathering thing is true, but who knows, maybe I will keep track of the ones I think are females, by the feathering, and mark it in a book, and see how many actually turnout to be true. LOL Only way to tell I guess.
ok silly question, regarding sexing of orpington chicks. Is there any way to really tell the roos from the pullets on chicks, just by their wing feathers? I was told females wings will grow out quicker than that of males. Not sure if this holds any truth or not. I dont know how to vent sex (so...
