I have 2 pens with blue orpingtons. My blue roo does quite well with his hens, but the other roo, which is a big black roo, and I do mean BIG, he looks more along the lines of a Jersey Giant than an orp, he is very good with the girls, but hurts them when he mounts. I have saddles on all his girls, but he has ripped each one of them open somewhere or another, and hurt their legs, (limping hens). He is so big, that he has a hard time balancing on the hens, who seem dwarfed by him.
I was wondering if there are a different breed of hens, that would be bigger, that I could put in with him instead of the orpington hens. I dont wan't to get rid of him, because he is sweet, and beautiful to boot, just he's to heavy for the girls.
Any suggestions?
