    Chicken confused

The chicken died last night. She was alert on Wednesday, eating and drinking and acting like a chicken. Went downhill yesterday. Found her this morning. There must have been something else, she just shook her head and had problems eating with lack of direction. I should have called her...

    Chicken confused

Here is my problem. On July 12 I leave for the beach for a week. The chickens are in a secure run with a coop, food and water. A friend checks on them and collects eggs. I won't be here to take care of her. So I have to solve this before next Saturday.

    Chicken confused

Thank you. I totally agree that cervical dislocation is best for the animal. I will also try the b vitamins. I can't believe she is still walking around and acting normal when I can't get her to eat.

    Chicken confused

I don't care about trauma to me. I just don't want her to suffer. She doesn't deserve it. I can't believe how many cruel ways there are for ending a chickens life. I've been told to suffocate, drown, bang their head on a tree, shoot them. I mean, chickens can recognize 200 different faces. They...

    Chicken confused

Thank you. I think she sees something,at e light. But even when I try to feed her by hand she pecks the opposite way from the food. She pecks every which way. Her coordination is way off. She can't find her way into the coop and if I put her in she doesn't come out with the others. I don't want...

    Chicken confused

She ate an egg with moist feed while sitting in my arms. But when I put her down she couldn't find it. She was pecking all around it. So definitely hungry just can't find the food. Her name is Angel.

    Chicken confused

So ..she appears to be blind. She won't eat, I guess because she can't see, even out of my hand. What now? I guess I know but she is my first baby, survived a vicious dog attack and I'm really not equipped to dispatch chickens. Don't yell at me...I should be prepared but she is my first.

She is the oldest and usually the queen of the coop. I will check her eyes and ears.

    Chicken confused

My 6 year old chicken started acting strange yesterday. Seems confused, bumping into things, clumsy. She is not eating but drinking a LOT. Gave her a cool bath last night and was surprised to see her alive this morning. She did not roost but slept on the coop floor. Her comb is floppy so I...

    Not laying this summer

My 11 chickens laid like crazy all fall, winter and spring. Now in Summer I only get maybe 5 eggs a day!. They get high protein layer food, meal worms, lots of fresh fruits and veggies. They are 2 years old. It has been very hot and dry here in North Carolina. Comments?

    Late molt

One of my brahmas waited to shed and now she is about half naked. Temps in N.C. are dropping fast. This week we will have lows of 23 and 18. What do I do?

Why do they seem to be starving?

Why do they seem to be starving?

My 11 layers have unlimited pellets. Every day they get a handful of meal worms, grit, oyster shell, Crack corn, and any leftovers from our day (we cook fresh food every day, I grind up the cuttings and peels from veggies as well as egg shells, the cores of cabbage, etc.). They have a huge run...

    Brahma with red head.

I agree that she is being pecked so what do I do? I am putting antibiotics cream on her but do I remove her from the coop? I was told that once they pick on a chicken they will continue. Poor sweet girl. She is so docile.
