My sebastopol is broody, and I because I have no gander and would like chicks I put some chicken eggs under her. Has anyone done this before on here?
Assuming she hatches the eggs and is a good goose mom, what should I do? Is she likely to be too rough or anything?
I know I could take the...
Hello, I have something I would like to ask mille fleur cochin breeders. Does this pullet look like she could be a mille fleur cochin cross? Her feathers are mostly layered black at the base, white, and then a darker chestnut color. She has some silver laced feathers, particularly on her head...
I believe you can make sex-links with gold and silver laced birds, I read you can with sebrights so I assume you could with wyandottes. I don't remember whether the roo had to be gold or silver though.
You should try and find the good sex-link thread, it has all the information on pairing...
Thank you.
I'm thinking since she seems to be alright with what she's doing now, if it doesn't get worse I'll just keep handling her a lot for now. Next time we have a chicken swap nearby I'll see if I can find a silkie or another frizzle or something to be her friend if she still doesn't get...
A couple days ago my friend gave me a cute little mutt frizzle. The problem is, she just pretty much stays by herself apart from the rest of the flock. When I first brought her home they didn't know she was a chicken, they've never seen a frizzle before, and now I guess they pick on her when she...

Sorry to be hijacking this thread-
There are no good or bad quality Icelandics- They don't have an SOP and never will since they come in so many patterns and such. The point is that breeders are trying to keep these bred true and not cross with anything for preservation efforts...
Just wondering...isn't it good, in some ways at least, that a hatchery will be selling these chickens? I mean, they'll be bad quality, but more people will know about them and get them, and if they like their hatchery icelandics maybe they'll come for some good quality icelandics. I always see...
Why not 3 Roos to 25 hens?
That gives a little more than 8 hens to each roo, and considering people breed in trios or pairs, I think they should be fine...I only have one cockerel with his two pullets though, so I'm not any kind of an authority.
Maybe a stylish mix, like labradoodles but with chickens?
Or a breed that some people get because a designer has them, like d'uccles because of Martha Stuart?
Honestly, I have no idea. I'll be watching this thread now to find out.

Oh, I'm sorry! It always just sucks when any animal dies, and it sounds like your girl was a special one. Good luck finding white d'uccles, though.
Same question as the one before?
Nope. I don't eat regular eggs on their own, that could be way worse.
For $10 would you watch one of those teen disney movies (look up Another Cinderella Story) all day, just playing it again the minute it ends?
I'm going to get a house pet chicken sometime in the future, and I'm wondering what people think is the best diaper. My geese have diapers from The Goose Mother and Indoor Ducks, that go on over the head and buckle on the tail and back, and they're made to put a baby diaper section in the pouch...
Ideal Poultry has several colors of d'anvers.
You could probably get better representations of the breed by buying from a breeder nearby/ordering hatching eggs, but that depends on what you want it for, of course.
Good luck!
