6 year old chicken. Noticed she was roosting still at 10 am tail tucked. I picked her up set her down and she moved cautiously out of the house and went to drink water. She eventually went to the shade with the flock. I then saw her out tail tucked moving slowly. What of the many things does...
My first through was umbilical cord even though I know they aren't mammals. So first should I be concerned about the chicken on going? All them seemed to be walking normal but half were already up ont he roost. I am pretty sure my only chickens laying are less than a year old.
We had 2 adult roosters and we actually rehomed 1 of them and we have a few pullet roosters that haven't started the mating yet. We will be swapping them out too. We do have 18 hens and the adult roosters is a Barnvelder and is smaller.
She did leave some droppings when I checked her out. She had laid the day before and did roost(up 5 feet) last night. She is moving a little and I moved her to her own space. She did get beat up pretty bad by the roosters on her back. She definitely has inflamed skin.
So I have noticed a hen who is 4 years old who is slow to move. It is 9am and she is still on her roost. She does eventually come down, but last night she was in a nesting box until bed time. I pulled her out checked her legs and they were fine. She was breathing a little heavy but had been 90...
thank you, it does seem like this is the same issue. We brought her in to her own space and put some VetRX on her and she has stopped making the noise every breath, but just the occasional. She is really pushing with her vent muscles like she is maybe trying to lay, but has been doing this for a...
I have maybe seen it a couple times but they definitely are not getting out in the morning and chancing the hens, which is something I remember from our old rooster. The pullets hens have started to lay.

My phone didn't tell me I had responds! I did remove a rooster Monday night and the other is still being aggressive with our older hens. The pullets have lived with the older hens for a long time, as in before the hormones got the best of them.
We have kicked...
Hello, we have 8 older hens (2-3years old), 5 young hens (8 months old) and 2 roosters ( also 8 months old). What I notice is all the youngins will go out every day and majority of the old hens will not. We think they do not want to deal with the roosters jumping on them and thus hide inside...
Ok, I realize it is a real bad idea, but what else is laying in the winter? I found the bottom egg in an open orchard (there are chickens 100 yards away) and we are considering trying to hatch it but we also know the danger of that.
So the 3 eggs are top to bottom duck, chicken and ??. The size...
Went to let out my runner ducks and found they laid 2 eggs. They had not laid in 6 weeks, which has been how they have done it the last 2 years. I'm wondering if they will lay a few more before fully stopping for the winter.
We have 8 3 year old hens, 7 pullets and 3 pullet roosters. She was showing the neck and head feather loss before we added the pullets. It hasn't changed too much but this sticky back is brand new
