    Pheasant pair cage size

aprophet - as you can see, Charliet likes to argue that small is the only way to go, and has developed a strong hate for me. No big deal: I'm not going to argue with her and let her bring me down to her level. You want birds to be in prime shape, then bigger aviaries are the way to go. A Golden...

    Reeve's questions?

Quote: Must be a young one then. After keeping them for several years then you may have information to add. Odd thing about the internet. A person may post what they think is years of experience and in reality is nothing more than a couple years, at most. Reeves have a wide range of vocabulary.

    Pheasant pair cage size

Quote: Nearly 200 years of aviculture has been discredited by a person new to the keeping of a species (not a breed !).

    Reeve's questions?

Very rare to have a non-aggressive male Reeves. Even ones in the wild are aggressive. This long tail species does better in large aviaries.

Impeyan, was this a good deal

Quote: That is what the wife said, however as I mentioned I am a stickler for perfection and I will not be able to do that. My biggest concern is him being genetically inferior, in which case I would not want to breed him and further mess up bloodlines. I concur with your line of thought.

Chukar eggs 'quit' about halfway through?

refrigerated for 2 weeks You shouldn't do that. Egg Storage-room Environment Hatching eggs should be stored in a cool and, if possible, constant-temperature room. The best temperature for egg storage is between 50 and 60f (10 and 16c). Ideal storage has a regulated constant temperature of 55f...

Where are you located and what kind of weather do you deal with? All four seasons (snow, heat, etc.)??? Very north side of zone 2b, an hour north of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Temps have hit -52c not counting the wind chill. Long winters. Got frost in June this year......

    Pheasant pair cage size

That is only 40 sq. ft. = too small. Plus at 4' high you will have trouble keeping it cleaned up.

    Pheasant pair cage size

Quote: FOR ONE PAIR OR TIO !! thats HUGE !! I have a pair of Golden in an area (including their "house" part) 860 sq. ft. They use every square foot of it as well. However, they do not need this big an area. It's just what I built for them. (you can likely find pictures in the coop section...

    Ringneck hatching question.. ????

Don't open the incubator. It drops the humidity and then you'll have bigger problems.

Quote: I've had to do that before. I put down 2" to 4" of good quality top soil (50% black top soil, 25% sand and 25% peat moss). Over this I put sod (from a sod farm). Keep watered so it takes faster. If birds are already in the aviary, they'll likely pick/dig along the seams. Couple other...

toes are twisted. is that bad?

Crooked toes can also be from a deficiency of riboflavin in the starter or grower diet. (can also be confused with curled-toe paralysis) Never use deformed birds as breeders. Cull them or keep as non-breeding pets.

    Help!! Baby chukars

Quote: I'll second that. Protein should be about 30% for them. You'll find most of the starter crumbles are on the large side for Quail and Chukar the first few days to a week - crush it up some before giving it to them. If you give any vegetable matter, make sure they have fine grit to go...
