First time flock owner, thinking about hatching out some in the spring. What will i be looking at with these breeds i have?

I would honestly suggest an Easter egger rooster. If you get one with only one blue egg gene, then only half his offspring will lay blue. The other half will lay white, tan, or brown eggs depending on what their mother's lay. The feather colors are not standardized either, so you don't know what...

    Pullet or cockerel?

There's a few I'm unsure of, but I'll give you my best guesses. Cockerel Pullet Not sure, but I'm leaning cockerel Cockerel Unsure, but it has quite a red comb Pullet Unsure, but I think I'm seeing wattle development Pullet Cockerel Pullet Unsure, hard to say on the comb but the shoulders are...

As @Not-so Slick Chicken said, the white rocks could produce black or white offspring. And the rooster depends on your goals for your flock. What are you eventually looking for when hatching? Certain egg colors, fun colors, pure breeds? If you don't want all the black offspring, then avoid...

You are correct with the lavender hens. With your rooster they will produce 100% lavender offspring. The chocolate orpington will give you solid black pullets and cockerels split to chocolate, but you won't be able to tell the difference since the cockerels will be solid black. The Rhode...

What colour will the chick be? Closest answer gets a drawing of their chicken!!

He's so cute! I've seen toes like that once before, on a Legbar-Faverolles mix. It has something to do with only having one fifth tog gene. I always thought it was cool because they were more functional that the typical fifth toes by being able grab with them.

Wish the camera wanted to focus a bit better, but you can see the general idea. I use a figure 8 bun with mine since I found that the easiest.

I don't know if you've ever tried them, but I've found hair sticks work really well for me. I have a ton of really fine hair, so keeping it up without breaking is a challenge. Hair clips never worked as they just slide right out the moment I start moving and with hair ties I would have to have...

    Help idetify breed?

The right and middle chicks are both red sexlinks. You can see the red feathers with white patterning coming in on their wings. Because of that, my guess is the left most is also a red sexlink. There's a chance it could be a buff orpington, but I'd bet they all came from the same bin. A bonus...

Sustainable meat chicken dual purpose choice

I've never raised them myself, but I've heard good things about Freedom Ranger Hatchery's line of New Hampshire Reds. Apparently they still breed them for dual purpose flocks. I think someone on here got a bunch and they were very meaty birds that grew quickly, but could still move around...

How can I "make" an olive egger?

So I might be able to help you understand this. There are around 13 genes that add brown shell pigment to eggs. Some of those genes are sex-linked, so the brown egged hen with the blue egged roo will pass her sex-linked brown egg genes to only her sons. This means the pullets are lacking some...

    Comb type

The comb on your chick is a mix of the single comb and the v-comb of the houdan. That cross will produce birds with a combined comb type, resulting is a split single comb. I believe @JacinLarkwell is familiar with this phenotype and should be able to give you more information as to what the...

    Please identify

My best guess would be the blue copper marans is the middle photo since it has heavily feathered legs. I believe the one you are missing is the blue cuckoo marans, since I'm not seeing even the slightest trace of barring on the other two. That leaves it between olive egger and Australorpe for...

    Maybe I'm mistaken.

If the white stripe is over a black spot, then yes. I've seen barring on a Cornish Cross that had a spot of leakage. Pay close to any spots that appear in their feathers, and hopefully you will get your answer.

The True Truth: How to tell an Easter Egger from an Ameraucana. Even if you think you have an Ameraucana, do check!

To add to the craziness, I'm not even sure if they have any Americana in them. They appear to have single combs and no beards, traits I would expect if they had any Americana or Ameruacana ancestry. At least pea combs because it is linked to the blue egg gene. I almost wonder if these were the...

The True Truth: How to tell an Easter Egger from an Ameraucana. Even if you think you have an Ameraucana, do check!

Sounds like Fleet Farm is getting their chicks from Hoover's. I've noticed in recent years they've started selling what the call Easter Eggers alongside their "Americanas." Both are Easter Eggers. The Americanas are your traditional Easter Eggers with muffs, beards, and pea combs. Their Easter...
