Hi, I’m looking for more information on congenital loco - stargazing chicks.
I’ve hatched 26 silkie chicks this weekend from 2 breeding pens. 16 from my paint pen and 10 from my blue pen.
From the blue pen, 3 on 10 chicks were stargazing. Last hatch from the same pen also one stargazer...
Thanks for the support everyone!!
It’s the middle of the night where I live now, so I tucked it underneath momma hen and the rest of the hatchlings, for the best chance on acceptance.
It was very much alive and kicking, I’ll post pics tomorrow!
Still one egg to go…. Hope this will be an...
Turns out it was attached by a tiny tiny string. I’ll let it fluff up a bit and I’m going to put it with the rest of the hatch that hatched out Thursday 🙈
The chick:
The inside of the eggshell, I think it was ready:
So, 30hrs have passed and I had to assist a little more. Freed the head and neck.
Yolksac seems to be completely absorbed, but man this is one of the hardest hatches I've witnessed. I really hope it's not deformed or anything, can't see everything yet.
It doesn't seem really conscious, eyes...
I know, I think this one pipped way too soon.
I assisted it a few hours ago and the veins didn't seem fully absorbed yet. I freed it up a little bit, but I think I hit a vein. It's still alive though and chirping and breathing :)
I'm moistening it up with coconut oil every two hours.
So it's shrink-wrapped?
It was a staggered hatch from under a hen. I have one more left, that seems to be a day behind in developing. And 10 new ones that I put in the 'Bator on Wednesday, it's a mess :')
This egg came from a staggered hatch and I’m letting it hatch in the incubator with another one since the hen wasn’t sitting anymore and the eggs were cold. I had some trouble getting the humidity up, but it’s at 63% now.
Yesterday around 4pm this one pipped. See photo, it didn’t look like it...
I’m not talking about the humidity anymore 🙈
I was indeed referring to the hand turning (it now automatically turns every 2 hours) and the position (slightly angled pointy side down) they are put in :) I guess I could solve that by putting them in an egg box (not sure how you call these in...
Thing is, the other 10 arent supposed to hatch yet for about 20 days :) and really need to be incubated that way to get good results so I don’t think I can remove the tray?
Ok never mind my own question, this turns automatically :') and we can't have that right now. I'll try to find a solution for them to hatch safely in there.
