    Day 24 Silkie Egg

She's relentless, that's why I let her sit she's still nesting. I think I'll move the egg into my incubator for another couple of days and move my hen and chick to the brooder area. :) Fingers crossed that it's just late... it was a silkie egg that I had in the fridge and figured I'd see what...

    Day 24 Silkie Egg

They aren't visible in the photos but there are veins. I candled on day 22 to see if there had been internal pips yet and there appears to have been development in the egg since then. But can't see movement.

Hi, So I've had a silkie egg under broody mama for almost 24 days now. I did the float test, it looked good but didn't show any movement. I candled and as you can see in the photos it has a huge aircell and takes up the whole egg basically, but again, didn't see any movement... Mama is staying...

Reintegration Question - Broody on Eggs in house- First Timer

Thanks for the reply. I ended up booting her fluffy butt outside at least every other day anyway, mostly to stretch and poop. She is so committed she won't leave the nest. I think the longest she went was 3 days and I intervened, I decided at that point to make sure I get her up atleast every...

The short of it- If my silkie is inside brooding on eggs for the next few weeks and raising them inside for another few weeks atleast will the flock take her back after? Should I bring her outside to the flock every other day even if it's just for a couple of minutes? This is my son's silkie...

Single crossbeak hen Introduction to established flock

Hi, So months ago I offered to adopt a cross beak amaraucana if it turned out to be a she. I'd hate to see the poor thing culled. Today the lady contacted me, the hen is 4 months old and is the same size as the others so eating fairly well. I want to bring her home, but I'm worried about...

    Sick chicken - Please help!!

PLEASE HELP!! My girl Liza is acting different today. Slow, small steps, almost limping, then sits. Not moving around a lot. She has moved around to get food and water, but is generally inactive and appears uncomfortable. I noticed black tar like diarrhea on her feathers, not sure if that was...

    Advice? Integrating Leghorns and Silkies

Thank you! That is all great advice. I was just reading up on it a bit as well. I should have paced myself with introducing the EE'S.... oh well, now I know better for when it is time to introduce my leghorns. Yeah, my silkies have been sleeping as a cuddle puddle on the floor right infront of...

    Advice? Integrating Leghorns and Silkies

Hi, I'm looking for some advice and reassurances....I raised 4 silkies and 3 cochins this year, but had to rehome 4 roosters... leaving me with 3 silkies, 3 months old. I just integrated 2 Easter Eggers. 2 of the silkies are pecking the EE's any time they come near, my black silkie (might be a...

    Turning Chickens into Lap Pets?

Thanks for all the wonderful advice guys. I would have love to keep my roos but it's a no rooster property :( I have a couple of silkies that I raised with my cochins, they aren't lap pets exactly, but if I pick one up and say it's cuddle time they don't object too much. I just miss my boys so...

    Turning Chickens into Lap Pets?

So my son and I incubated 3 cochins earlier this year. We spent a lot of time taming them once hatched and they were the sweetest....all three ended up being roosters! They would jump onto my shoulder, run to me when they heard me.... we had them for 3 months before we found them all good homes...

Lice - Advice Please- Rescued 2 Leghorn Hens

I need advice on treating 2 leghorn hens with lice. Backstory: My son and I went to a farm to look at EE's chicks, but ended up coming home with two 14 month old white leghorn hens. They had been rescued from a battery cage farm with horrible conditions, they had just been forced to molt for...

Amaracauna 3 weeks- hen or roo?

Hi there, Someone posted locally that they are looking to rehome this cross beak 3 week old amaracauna, but didn't know if it was a hen or a roo. I thought, why not ask here though it's probably too early to tell.... I told her that if she keeps it long enough to tell if it's a hen or a roo...

Need homes! 2 Bantam Cochin Roos! Willing to ship in Canada British Columbia

2 bantam cochin roos - 3 months old. We had a very unfortunate roo to hen hatch...100% roos actually in a no rooster zone. My rooster plan did not account for such bad odds... I have two out of three left, "Lil' Eggie" and "Cluckles". Hand raised, very tame with us, come when called, we were...

Cochin Roos? Or manly looking hens?

Thanks everyone. That really sucks, incubated 4 eggs, one quit, and the other three all roos :( they are so sweet and we love them so much, this sucks. My son is 10 and trying to convince us to let him keep his rooster in his bedroom, which I've explained isn't feasible or fair to Cluckles...
