Speaking of MG, I'm worried that my pair of little Bantam Sumatras have it...
Symptoms: Sneezing, congestion, less eggs. (They *had* very watery eyes, with white discharge...)
They eat like normal, and they don't seem overly sick. All my flock got it too... Figures. :(
It's very cold where I...
Thanks for your advice!
I'll def breed my pair, and have some chicks, cull a few, and um... Carry on.
Wahey, I researched a little, and if I'm careful, it's probably ok to breed within the pair again...
I bought two Sumatra Bantams, Gunther and Inga, from a great breeder, Doug Akers. They were expensive, and I could only afford the pair.
But I want to breed them, and I'm a bit at a loss as how to do it. I'm pretty sure that the pair are somehow related. Cousins or nephew and aunt. I don't...
Is it normal for a bantam Sumatra hen to be a little larger then her rooster? My hen is like a few grams heavier... But I'm thinking this because she's a good layer. Should I try to breed my hens smaller?
That's pretty impressive. I'm going to breed Sumatra Bantams. The ones I have are from a good line, and hopefully I can sell their chicks for a high price.
I Just came back from the Safford show I did really well I won open champion AOSB with my black sumatra cockerel
here is a photo of him.
Nice rooster! He looks like mine.
His tail is very full, which I love in a bantam Sumatra. Where did you get this boy from?
It's the lighting. I'll post some much better photos very soon. I just wanted to get as much of the form of the bird as possible. They are actually both very black, so I think it's the light I have in the barn, and the flash.
Oh, and the roo has been in a building all his life, and combined...
Well, of course the male has a red comb. And skin. He has been in a barn all his life. When Sumatras are exposed to the sun, they darken way up. The hen has been outside, so she's very dark. When spring comes around, I'll have my male out a lot more, and he'll be ready for show.
