English Orpington Ladies: Jeri (Don't ask, she has crooked feet & we named her after a character on TV....horribly inappropriate and very politically incorrect) Tom (hen, but it goes with Jeri and they were adopted as a pair) Laverne Shirley Polish: Marilyn Monroe Fronk (Polish frizzle and...

1 day old ducklings and chicks in brooder together?

Hi all, I've been a crazy chicken lady for over a year now and am completely addicted! I've decided to add 2 Welsh Harlequins and they arrive as day old ducklings this Tuesday. I have Blue Laced Red Wyandotte eggs in the incubator and they will hatch tomorrow. Long story short, the...

Help! About to incubate for the 1st time & recevied double the hatching eggs asked for - feeling ov

Update-the little one didn't make it through the night. He/she was holding steady in the cup but the unabsorbed but drying yolk sack and remains of the umbilical cord have a very foul smell when I arrived home yesterday. It's breathing seemed a little labored, as well. I would love to hatch...

Agree with you. I ordered and paid for 17 eggs....they generously shipped 35. I successfully hatched 18, so the statistics are correct.

Oh! I'm so sorry to hear about the skunk and the loss of the little ones :( This was my first attempt at hatching (so difficult to find English Orps near me so I thought I would try it myself). Papa's Poultry was recommended by a friend of mine and I've been nothing but pleased with them...

The one with the "Eyeliner" is a cream legbar. It's funny to see that they are already so much smaller than the Orps!

    The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Just hatched 14 English Orpingtons from Papa's Poultry! Mottled; Lavender; Lemon Cuckoo; Splash and a project Gold Laced/Silver Laced cross (not for breeding, just for eye candy). So excited! They are 1 day old and they look like fluffy, colored cotton balls running around the brooder. I'm...

It's very active and seems fine with the exception of this. Is it an unabsorbed yolk sac?

Help! About to incubate for the 1st time & recevied double the hatching eggs asked for - feeling ov

I was slowly removing bits of shell but pulled on the membrane accidentally and it bled a bit at the beginning of my assist. When it had a leg out, I tried to assist by taking away additional bits of the shell. I think it became too exhausted. I will know what to look out for next time...

Help! About to incubate for the 1st time & recevied double the hatching eggs asked for - feeling ov

They are a few cream legbars and a bunch of English Orpingtons. I don't think he/she made it. It was struggling to get out all morning and I was assisting here and there by gently opening the pip without touching the membrane. It managed to free a leg but now it's not chirping or moving.

Great to hear (read)! Thank you. We've had 10 hatch so far and are expecting 12 more. We lost one who pipped, zipped and then nothing. I've left the little one in the bater trying to be optimistic but I think it's gone....sad :(
