No Tanya, my chick did not survive even with hand feeding she could not grow properly and could never figure out how to eat on her own. Some people do have success at keeping them alive and happy. If the chick is non stop peeping and seems anxious, it's starving. There are things to try like...
I use sand in the run, it is great for keeping the stench down and it's easy to clean. With all the rain we get the feed that gets scratched out of the feeder will start to rot and ferment and stink to high heaven and attract flies. I have a small tractor like coop that I move back and forth...
I have pulled my Silkie girls in the house when it was freezing temperature all night long I put them in their dedicated laundry basket in the mud room. I make sure to take them back out early in the morning before they dump out. My three hens I have let brood in the house before and they're...
Are you kidding with the petting? My girls would be dead we pet them everyday they love a good scratch too. You have to worry about them getting pecked too hard or knocking the top of their noggins on something hard but not petting. We free range too granted we have a watch dog and we...
...Sorry about the first chick you did right by it. I've got two Broody Silkies sitting on 24 eggs right now during a heatwave, their coop was 99*F today. I've been pulling them off for ice water breaks and I put a block of ice inside it, opened all the hatches. A dozen a piece is a bit much...
The cord that attaches it to the egg has a blood vessel that runs along side it. It could also be trailing the u absorbed yolk ask and the cord with blood and the abdomen could be closed you have to look really good with clean hands to see if it's closed or not.
Oh no it's probably intestines you can try to gently push them on the hole in its abdomen that most likely isn't closed. Put Neospirin and tape or super glue the hole shut.
Oh no like it's guts are hanging out? I can't make out the picture very good on my phone. If it's just the cord it might make it, I see blood in there, if it's the cord bleeding you can tie it in a knot or pinch and hold to stop bleeding.
The Turner is nice, if you're getting readings between 45-70% I would just assume that it's in the middle of the two so that 60% reading is probably the most accurate, I had both windows dripping with condensation on them in the 60+ range. Which is bad!
Get a couple of Silkie hens if you want to hatch every 3-6 months they go broody. I've got one girl who if I feed too many treats goes broody when her crop is too full, so silly I really have to watch it with her. She also can cover a dozen eggs at a time. So much easier taking them off the...
I just about had it dialed in this last hatch going totally dry, then 40% with sponges and both plugs in day 1-18. And putting it in the basement. However when I let the broody do it she hatched all the eggs no hassles! I don't hatch much so I don't need an incubator, TG!
It might take awhile to level out since you just opened it. The windows fog up completely with 60-70% you do not want that. It is nerve racking good luck on your hatch!
That accurite is not the best mine is off two degrees and the humidity gauge is wonky too! The readout on the incubator for humidity is close to accurate between 40-60% are you using a sponge in there? Don't just pour water in it, when you see condensation on the windows it's doing that inside...
I was using shavings in the run too until chicken chick turned me on to sand, it keeps the stench down better. We have a small coop and we pick it up and move it, I have two sand spots the size of the coop. We pick it up shovel the spilled food and droppings out then put fresh sand over that...
