I just noticed these on my Americauna. I was able to pull one off and I looked at it under a little microscope (that I got for Christmas in 7th grade, lol) and it looks calcified. Bighead seems fine, laying and acting normally. She has not been wormed. I put some vaseline on it and I guess...
That's funny--that's the reason I decided against it! I am so worried a rooster would lead the girls up into the road. They've never gone on their own before.
I think I have decided against adopting the rooster. I agree with the above-mentioned saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The girls are so happy and who knows what discordance a rooster may introduce.
I'll wait for one to show up in my yard-now, that's a different story! I always keep...
Well, I'm vegetarian, so no free dinner here! I'd have to find him a new home, ugh...
Now I am worried that he may lead my girls astray, i.e. into the road. They are SO good about staying in the yard and have never gone near the road but what if he doesn't feel the same constraints?
Such a...
I will always chip my dogs and cats. My dogs took off after deer last year and were lost all night (a sleepless, sleepless night). In the morning, we found the two big girls but not my Jack Russell. Then we get a call from a neighbor who had called the number on the chip tag and they had all...
I spoke to the shelter and I am pretty sure they will give me one, if that means not having to euthanize it. The girl I spoke to is also considering adopting one and she works there.
I would definitely quarantine for a month.
I have 11 girls, 11 different breeds. I recently lost my americauna and am considering replacing her. So, I just called my local animal shelter and they just got five roosters in and may not even try to adopt them. What should I do? Of course, I want to save a chicken but I am very worried...
Whatever you do, don't let it in the house! I got some old boxes from my grandma's basement and they had those moths (I can't remember the name...) and they infested my house. They got in the pantry and ruined everything I had in there. They even got into sealed packages. It was totally...
Thanks for the bump! However, someone made me some delightful saddles. They even have hearts sewn into them! I still think its too hot for them, though.
OK, I have had this niggling theory about my chickens' bare butts.
I believe the problem started with a protein deficiency, which has...
I have a guinea pig but she only goes out with the chickens under a clothes basket (to protect from chickens and hawks!). I assume the chickens would bother her since they are pretty nosy and kind of mean (they killed a poor innocent toad for no reason at all). You may want to do some...
I love my vet and he saw one of my chickens when she hurt her foot. I am not sure he was happy about it though...anyway, he is super-awesome and I love him!

Right now the females are on the nest. You should notice more out and about when the babies fledge. Everyone was noticing how there were fewer hummers last year around this time, too, but then later in the summer they all showed up!
I usually only have 1-2 pairs and my activity seems normal...
My EE is an absolute sweetheart and she's a great layer. My Buckeye is the MOST docile and she is a super-awesome layer. My favorite is my Madagascar Games (naked neck) since she is totally darling but she's not such a good layer. I also have a California White and a Brown Sex Link who are...
