I was wetting the sponges in the LG. This hatch the weather has been so much drier that auxilliary moisture became necessary. I heard a cheep! I am looking for some hatching tomorrow.
I just shipped of 10 of my older pullets to a new home. I made a quick 75 bucks and don't have to dress chickens for the pot. The guy is happy as these hens are still laying quite well. It was kinda a good thing for all involved. Now I only have 28.
Here is ice station Idaho I still have 3 feet of snow in the yard. I am going to start removing straw bales from the coop. It is a greenhouse that I insulate so my birds can be comfy.
I view my chickens as farm critters. They provide us with egg money, eggs and meat. I will be honest and admit that instead of butchering my 2 year old layers, I sold them for 7.50 per bird on craigslist. The new owner is happy to be getting them.
UPDATE:
Yesterday I went to pick up the bator. It actually is a Aluminum brooder unit (the stackable kind) it looks to be in pretty good shape. I had an EMT class last night so I had no time to test it out. I will do that toady and report here/
