Indeed it is not as simple as opening the door. Trust me before I spend all this money on raising all these pheasants I researched the matter extensively :lau . Actually, kind of neat, my state has an extensive pheasant release program that releases thousands of birds every year!
So after looking at prices and seeking fantastic advice from all of you on BYC, my best option will be to buy some adult pheasants locally, and hatch and raise their eggs. The price will even out between the price of the adult birds and the price of 60+ eggs, however, I won't have to worry about...
Same here! Ive got about 400 acres too but of mostly grassland with a large chunk of thick aspen groves and some pines here and there. I used to see lots of pheasants - still see chukar, huns, and quail - but I'm going to try and establish a population that will hopefully be large and strong...
Thank you! You know this was something I hadn't even thought of for whatever reason 😂.There is somebody selling adult pheasants nearby my home so I will probably go with that.
I think the title asks the question well enough 😂, so what is it about call ducks that makes them hard to hatch? I am really wanting to hatch out a few eggs this season for the first time. Im really hoping for them to imprint which is part of the reason I want to hatch them myself. Also, does...
Well i think its got a few issues, one being the nails are excessively long and need trimming before it gets too hard for her to scratch up dirt and wear them down. But I would say shes got pretty bad scaly leg mites. There are some articles on BYC explaining treatment
Hmm that angle looks a bit different. Like you titled the thread it is way to early still. I wouldn't bet on cockerel yet especially seeing the comb from that angle. If it starts crowing soon then you'll know! But I think it could go either way.
I wouldnt be certain at 2 weeks but it does seem to have quite a comb. I would guess cockerel but I've had way to many chicks fool me and turn out as something else so don't be too discouraged yet!
Hi there!
I am looking for a good place to buy ringneck pheasant eggs. Does anybody know of any good sources? I've seen Stromberg's has some but at a relatively high price. So far I've landed on Harding Gamebird Farm. They seem to have great prices and look reputable. This will be my first time...
Eggs often vary widely. Most often for no real reason. If they arent already maybe you could try supplementing their diet with calcium (layer feed, oyster shell), but I would imagine her system is just working a bit off for a bit. Doesnt sound like anything serious to me!:D
I have found that the ability to completely open one side of the coop is INCREDIBLY helpful. But it doesn't have to be like an entire wall depending on the size of your coop. If I were rebuilding my coop I would make a kind of trap door maybe 2ft tall running the length of one wall along the...
That could surely be some signs of a broody hen. In the few hens I've had brood they tend to pluck after they are all settled in and brooding. However, every bird is different and plucking is often a sign. I would watch her closer now, if she is going broody she will spend more and more time...
Thank you! I will check thoroughly. She is looking better every day now. I didn't end up separating her but a weird scab like thing ended up covering almost her entire left side of her head. But now its just a bit of a scab over her eye which is still shut closed. I think she will be fully...
