I lost my beautiful golden Wyandotte yesterday Athena she was acting strange and tired. last two weeks but still eating and drinking and laying. Three years old.
Nothing looked abnormal could this just be her life span? So sad

Our battery is 3 years old have not changed it we keep talking about changing it before it dies but so far so good! Batteries are dated I believe make sure you aren't buying old batteries. Your post reminded me to add that to my to do list!
They are definitely happier when they are free! Mine see me coming and get so excited to come out! But....I lost one of my six last fall to either a fox or coyote while i walked inside for only a minute! (it dragged her over the fence and dropped her when my husband went back there)! and i...
Welcome! You will love them! You get very attached very quickly, My babies are almost 3, started with 6, now have 5 sadly one got attacked by ? The Barred Rocks were the most curious and smart/sweet, the Buffs sweet but shy, my Wyandotte kind of a loner but beautiful! You will have to see if...
Had ours two years same battery. No problems Really a must have for us although I do check in the freezing weather to make sure no one is locked out overnight !
they have a pretty large run but of course the grass is gone from it...I was more worried about hawks before! I had just walked inside when it happened...! They are 18 months old...the only real threat has been a squirrel that harasses them and a few snakes they surrounded...I guess I will go...
could a weasel carry it over the fence...I know we have them, have never seen one myself. And could a raccoon catch one in the open? I wish I knew, we have a yard cam but of course the battery was dead. I am going to keep them locked up for awhile unless I am on top of them...the coop is...
One of my sweetest chickens, a buff orphington was taken in daytime over a 5' chain link fence and dragged about 100 feet, only neck broken, my husband thinks fox or coyote? We have bears too but they only seem interested in bird feeder. It happened so fast he thinks we scared it off by...
I don't know how handy you are, but this was the first run we built, fairly easy, small enough to move and more solid than the ones you can find online...you would have to either make a skirt of hardware cloth to predator proof it or keep the chickens locked in the actual coop at night. Our...
I try to give my chickens entertainment when the weather is crappy (snow on the ground) freezing rain today. You can see the remnants of a hanging cabbage, a Purina flockblock in the coop itself. Today they were only interested in fighting over dry spots in the dirt to dust bathe! We close the...
did anyone ever get an answer on this, my barred rock has exactly those spots too, (only one of them) that I just noticed today, she is also in the middle of pretty severe molt...?
