Muscovy ducklings look like they will hatch a week early?!?!?!

Blind duckling is still doing really well, so I'm wondering if it is just vision impairment rather than completely blind.

    Ducks with special Needs

Hi! Sorry to hear that Dandelion keeps having seizures. We had a roster that was having alot of seizures from 3 days old. (didn't know it was a roster at the time). We found giving a mixture of vitamin B complex and also magnesium really helped. In fact I think it was the magnesium that...

    Ducks with special Needs

Hello everyone! Have just finished reading through this thread as we had our second clutch of muscovy eggs hatch last Tuesday under our gorgeous 'Pip'. One appears to be blind as it keeps bumping into things and getting left behind and it's eyes are smaller and not as round as the others...

Muscovy ducklings look like they will hatch a week early?!?!?!

Bob was fantastic with the ducklings. Bob and Pip are such good parents. We know to be careful with Bob while he is getting use to them as I know drakes can be nasty to their offspring so last time he was only allowed supervised visits for the first couple of weeks. He was giving them a...

Muscovy ducklings look like they will hatch a week early?!?!?!

Not sure if the blind one hatched last as I couldn't get a good look at them during hatching because she was keeping them tucked safely under her until they finished hatching. They all hatched within 12hours. She would raise her chest and let me have a quick look as if showing them off but them...

Muscovy ducklings look like they will hatch a week early?!?!?!

We live in Australia, and like I said it has been very hot during incubation, so assuming that has sped up development. The blind one seems to be doing fine and swimming in the little 'pond' just fine, although sometimes it gets left behind and starts to cheep and Mum cheeps back until it...

Muscovy ducklings look like they will hatch a week early?!?!?!

We had 8 eggs out of the 11 hatch 2 days ago. All appear to be healthy except for one that we suspect may be blind or have poor vision. Thinking it may have bee the heat during incubation if that is the case. They are absolutely gorgeous and our beautiful Mum is doing such a wonderful job...

Muscovy ducklings look like they will hatch a week early?!?!?!

Well, they are definately going to hatch. They have pipped more and one has a hole in it and I can see what appears to be a foot!!! So today is day 31 from last laid egg.

Muscovy ducklings look like they will hatch a week early?!?!?!

I noticed today 6 out of 11 eggs have pipped since yesterday. Eggs aren't due until about next Monday. They are under our lovely Muscovy duck "Pip" and this is her second hatch. First one was in October and she had 4 out of 6 eggs hatch at about day 36-37. I thought we must be a week out...

Should I intervene with blotchy eggs?

A pic of Pip and her ducklings on their first adventure. Bob was also out with them and while he initially wanted to mount Pip he responded well to a firm no or two and a large tub of water to play in. The ducklings were quite eager to introduce themselves to Dad, but we had to be right there...

Help! First time hatching ducklings - naturally!

Ended up doing some more research and posted about the blotchy eggs. You can read my 'blotchy' egg post for full details, but one had already died in the shell, fully formed, and died soon after making a hole. Barely any movement from withing the shell before we made the hole and it was barely...

Should I intervene with blotchy eggs?

Opened the one we thought was dead, and yes, it had died, was fully formed and had absorbed all it's yolk etc. Opened the one we thought was alive, and it was alive, but not very well. Very little movement and hardly breathing. Had also absorbed yolk sac but still had a few veins. It died...

Should I intervene with blotchy eggs?

Our gorgeous Muscovy duck has had her first 4 ducklings hatch in the last 24 hours with only 2 remaining that haven't pipped. Both were alive a couple of days ago, which is when they started to develop dark blotches on the air sack end of the egg. Today I can't hear/feel any movement in one...

Help! First time hatching ducklings - naturally!

The fourth duckling hatched while I was doing the grocery shopping. Only two more eggs left but I'm not sure they will hatch. The air sac of both has dark blotches on them, which the other four didn't, and neither have pipped yet. Can definately hear something in one of them but not the...

Help! First time hatching ducklings - naturally!

Forgot to mention that I think 'Bob' the drake will be pretty good with them as he has been with young chickens only a few weeks old and didn't seem at all worried about them. He is an extremely placid, somewhat cuddly drake. Having said that, we are going to err on the side of caution just in...

Help! First time hatching ducklings - naturally!

Thanks for the advice. After hatching so many quails and chickens in an incubator and being completely in control of the babies I find this 'natural' hatching a bit scary. Another two hatched over night and looks to be a fourth on it's was. Here's a pic of the first two, the third must have...

Help! First time hatching ducklings - naturally!

Our beautiful 9 month old muscovy duck has just had her first duckling hatch with more expected in the next day or so. We have been hatching quails and chickens in an inubator for a few years and know what to do food/water wise with them. Very uncertain what to do regarding food and water for...

My FrankensteinBATOR Quail hatching + Robin, 2 surprises in one.... Need some help quick.... ;)

Resist them temptation to help them at this stage. They can take 24-48 hours from that first crack to actually hatch, although some crack and hatch within hours. Assisted hatching is tricky and risky.
