    Mille Cochin Info

Gorgeous! I've got 26 new chicks...all cochin and most from 2 frizzle nests. I can't wait to watch them grow and see what I end up with!

    Lots of Cochin babies...frizzles too!!!

I guess fast is their only defense. Chasing them is great exercise! Also, the combo of silky and cochin looks good on Daphne! There were 5 new chicks yesterday and one this morning so we're up to a total of 26 Cochins so far. Then I was gathering all the eggs out of the big coop and 2 were...

    Lots of Cochin babies...frizzles too!!!

Nothing cuter than a baby chick...and I love the name Casper! I love the fact that Daphne is raising baby ducks. I've never seen a charcoal cochin before...she's gorgeous!

    Lots of Cochin babies...frizzles too!!!

There are 16 chicks in the tub pic but there are 20 now...19 of which are from 2 nests. One nest has a normal (smooth) mille fleur hen and a normal white rooster. The other nest has a mille fleur frizzle hen and a normal mille fleur rooster. The 20th chick was from a trio of a normal white...

I can't remember if I posted on this particular forum before or not, but I live in Newark close to Utica. I have a Wheaton Ameracauna trio, a Bantam Lavender Ameraucana pair, a rose-comb RIR pair, and 11 cochins (5 are white smooth/normal, one is a white frizzle, 3 are mille fleur smooth/normal...

Wow, he's stunning already! I wish hubby would let me keep peacocks. It's not that I need permission so much as I need help building pens and stuff, LOL! I guess I could sneak a peahen or two over here and claim they must have gotten lost too

Tracy, we believe he is lost. We think we know where he's from and my stepson called them about a week ago. They did lose a peacock but haven't tried to retrieve him yet. Linda

Your peacock is gorgeous, Kelsey! I never thought of bird seed...thanks! DreamBird, I tried youtube, but the video is choppy. I haven't tried mimeo yet. We're furiously trying to finish our coop because we're picking the rest of our chickens on Tuesday and I have some important paperwork...

I do have some video but no time to post it at the moment. Are we allowed to put video on here?

    An unexpected visitor...

I don't think I need a peahen yet anyway. I've have gotten my peacock crow down to a science. He caws 4 times and I caw 4 times back. We had a conversation yesterday before dusk and he came looking for me, LOL! He's cawing like crazy outside now. If he starts destroying gardens, I'll have to...

How would you convert this shed into a coop?

I love all of your ideas, Mattemma! I didn't think of sand for the floor, but that would really handle the floor problem. And your window suggestions rock! I wish I could find more of these tiny used sheds, LOL! Thanks so much for your input! Linda

How would you convert this shed into a coop?

I bought a small, used shed the other day (see pic below) thinking it will make an easy-to-convert temporary coop for my 4-week-old Silkies. I'm trying to figure out how to accomplish this by tomorrow since these kids needed to be out of my bathroom like yesterday! We're about a week away from...

    An unexpected visitor...

That probably won't be this year. Hubby's been building a coop and pen for a month now...I think I would be pushing my luck with a peahen pen!

Thank you, Minx Fox! DreamBird, he's all over the place so I don't think he'll stay on our property only. Yesterday he was perched on my sister-in-law's grapevine cross bar. I took a pick of him from my deck. I also noticed yesterday that he and my cockatoo seem to be cawing at each other...

Your peacock is gorgeous! That's nice to know about the veggie and flower gardens. I really like having this guy around...he's crowing out in the woods as I write this :)

Sorry, DreamBird, my internet was down most of the weekend, but he looks a lot like the pic you posted. I'll have to do more research before getting a peahen. So far it's not looking too good. My step-son says this bird has been around since autumn so I think I'll also wait to see if he messes...
