Hi all,
So I have a few questions regarding bantam x standard breeds crossing.
I have a bantam cochin rooster, and standard sized Cochin hens, if I hatch any chicks out of this cross, what would the result be size wise? My Cochin bantam roo isn’t APA, just a hatchery bird, if that helps...
Hi all,
Like many, I’m looking to start a project to create a true breeding meat breed that resembles the Freedom Ranger/Red Ranger. I’ve seen in many threads that most Ranger/pasture meat bird breeding stock females are Dwarf, making the males carry dwarf which is not ideal. Obviously you...
Not normally,
I had a group of silver laced Wyandotte from a Foley influenced line, all had single combs and hatch rates stayed at a constant 85%+, which was far better than my Brahmas, and even Australorps.
To my knowledge- yes.
The single combed gene is recessive, so it can show up in many lines of Wyandottes. However if you have a single combed Wyandotte hen, it’s not always a horrible thing… if you are wanting to use a rooster, but are unsure if he is homozygous rose combed, you can breed him...
Ok, but would they be feather sexable? I think know Cackle Hatchery has developed lines that are “pure” but are really a hybrid of two lines that are feather sexable at hatch (leghorns, Sussex and a few others). Would the slower feathering Orpington male over a very slow feathering English...
Hi Nicalandia,
Another question…
I’m wondering the feathering genetics in Orpingtons. I seem to confuse myself when I try to look it up- I tend to take in the information better when asking someone. If I breed an English Orpington female (“Kn” i believe?.. the very slow feathering gene that...
Hi @nicalandia ,
Could you tell me anything about the “Heavy bloom” chickens? Haven’t gotten clear answers on the genetics of the heavy bloom eggers and am just wondering your knowledge/experience with the trait(?).
Much appreciated!
Interesting, nicalandia.
What breeds can be used to produce these mutations? Obviously a dominant white leghorn, but what other breeds would I use if I wanted to produce these?
So, I’ve seen pictures of Smokey colored chickens and understand they breed dominant to dominant white, but how do you get this gene? Is it from breeding dominant white to some other color? What is the gene caused by? Really like Smokey colored birds, as they resemble a blue, but are...
