sorry for your sprouting problems... i quit after a few months. it got really expensive when the squirrels discovered my fodder in my screened in porch and tore the screen to pieces. The expensive part being having the screen fixed. Squirrels really love sunflower seeds! I also had mold...
all you need to do is go to #1, 2 and 3 of this post. basically dump seed in a bucket of water, wait a day, dump it out into seedling flats (or anything with holes - I use aluminum pie pans) and rinse it off once a day. there ya go. it sprouts and then you feed it to the chickens. you can...
so very sorry for your loss. a lot of us get very attached to our chickens, believe me. I hope you don't give up and let the coyotes win. nasty creatures. fortify the fences and start anew.
so sorry about your baby girl. that happened to me last year with a rooster when i was just in the front yard for a few minutes and left them all in the back. Came around and found a pile of black feathers from my rooster and all the hens were clucking furiously. I figured it was a hawk and...
I have used various containers for sprouting and one of the easiest is old aluminum pie pans I use a barbeque fork to poke holes in the bottoms. They drain really easily and make a very nice "sprout pie". I even use styrofoam leftover containers from restaurants and they are easy to poke holes...
yes yes definitely get chickens! i'm a little bit south of you - don't worry about the heat. it's great for when they are babies - they NEED the heat! we have over 100 chickens and have never had a problem. provide shade in their run of course when they get big. buff orpingtons are sooo...
i can understand your anger as i have had dogs jump my fence and kill my rabbits. animal control did nothing. then i had pitbulls attack my golden retriever (twice!) and animal control did nothing. that time i had to go to court to get my lousy $200 from the owner and take payments and then...
I thought it would help prevent so much wasted food but we have had several hatches of chicks that I tried it with (including quail) and they just don't like to eat from it! I end up just taking the top off and using it like a trough. the hanging feeders are a better way to go.
I hatched a dozen chicks and one is just weird - it won't grow. the wings grew but he is still little and kind of hunched over. his feet seem ok and he can move around and he appears to eat and drink but mostly he just sits around. now i've put him in with new baby chicks. they don't seem to...
