Just so you know there is a small family hatchery in Gold City/Franklin area called Feathered Friends that I bought birds from last year. They ought to be advertising on bowling green craigslist last year. Those were some really nice healthy chicks:). I don't know how far afield you want to...
I want nice birds, close to show quality as possible. Please if you have GLP or Speckled Sussex from a hatchery and feel like sharing pics/personal experience it would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have ordered from murray mcmurray the last couple times. Their birds are decent but as bluecoondawg talked about they ship on Fridays so they sit a little longer than optimal. Unfortunately it led to heavy losses, which they then replaced. Seems like my replacement order always does lots...
People have done it with a heat lamp. I would get a thermometer to set with them to ensure proper temp and maybe place a damp paper towel over them for humidity?
If I could find I would be using it. I looked at our TSC and they don't have it:(. I bought a bunch of chooks that are kinda sickly, mitey, and molting. Since they didnt have the feather fixer I'm feeding game bird starter, woodpecker suet blocks and vitamins in the water. But I really had...
So I am on second day of lockdown, went to rewet my sponge and there is a not so wholesome smell:(. I don't know which egg has gone bad....:(. Am I going to ruin the viable chicks by inspecting eggs at this point? I know that they move into hatch position during the last three days.
I keep Corid, vet rx, oxytetracycline, save a chick, vitamin supplement that goes in water, safeguard, and sevin type dust for mites around. And of course I have neosporin, and other antibiotic type stuff for injuries. I like bactine because it has a numbing agent too. Vet said it was fine...
Mine are slacking too:(. I have twelve and I've gotten three eggs this week. Of course there has been the combining of two flocks together so I imagine they are stressed.
Thanks for the input. I think you are right, go with the sevin for now to get it gone birds and coop. Its just gonna be a long day lol. My hubby comes home tomorrow evening I already have him roped in as my surgical assistant. These mites/bumblefoot came in on some birds I just purchased...
Rough day here at shady acre and a half. Got to do a bumblefoot surgery tomorrow on one hen, dust everybody and fumigate the coop. Get some vet rx up the nose of that hen with the eye issue. Thinking about doing some pour on ivermectin for all the chickies. What you guys think- ivermec or...
If you have to eliminate your flock and you decide you would like some hatching eggs I would send you some if you just pay the shipping. Could send speckled sussex and maybe a few partridge rock if you want. I know it sucks to lose an entire flock:(
