Thank you for the reply! I added a single drop of colloidal silver to the water to help with general health. In the past this has helped baby chicks. We are fairly new to quail so we were not sure if we were missing something. We greatly appreciate your thoughtful response!
hi. We have a batch of baby Quail and one is looking very weak, sleepy. We are giving fresh water with electrolytes and a few grains of sugar but not getting it peppy. We feed medicated chick start. Our other quail do fine on this as this is what our local feed bin sells. Anyone suggest...
Hi. We have been keeping chickens for 6 years. This is the first time we have seen this... Do you know what it could be? One hen (looks good in appearance) begins to just stand around and not have any interest in eating. Does drink. Sometimes walks slow and looks around in a daze...
Thanks again! I did see dosages on the Poultry Podiatry page! Great link!! We read every possible leg problem and cannot match it to her. We also cannot see any mites or lice. No other chickens from the 35+ flock have any sign either. But we will do a parasite sweep just in case. I wish I...
Hello, we have one of our favorite hens in trouble. She is a 5+ y/o Barred Rock. She started limping a few months ago. I know that seems long ago but we were hopeful she would recover. We just made life easier but didn't treat her leg and it didn't look broken. We suspected old age... Her...
Hi. Well we received a replacement order and one was dead upon arrival (silver polish). They looked very weak. Now things in CA were really cold and frigid this weekend and this may have been part of the problem. We have the perfect temp in a separate brooder from the first batch. We added...
*Update* The remaining chicks are now doing great and even running about playing their little chick games. I think they should be good now. However, the hatchery is sending out a replacement order for the dead chicks to arrive after the wknd again... Likely I will get called Monday again...
Thank you for your replies! Okay, the bedding when they arrived is textured paper towels to start. Then after day 2 we switch to large size shavings (nothing they can eat). But these chicks were dying from the get go. Quik Chick is vitamins and electrolytes. Plus we added sugar to the water...
Hi!
Would that make them die off slowly one by one? They look so normal until the "go down". We have never had chicks die from stress. We are usually so careful as to not lose a single one even when they present disease... Any thoughts on how to stop the stress if that is what it is?
Hi all,
We got our latest shipment of chicks yesterday. Since they arrived we lost 7 in less than 18 hours and more are dying right now! Anyone else have this issue lately? The babies are all different breeds and it is affecting them all: blue andalusians, lakenvelders, silver polish...
Yeah!!! I want her to be a pullet. Everytime I look at her (and I do a lot), she just looks like a "hen to be"... but then to see her crow is just dumbfounding!
We have one BO hen that used to suck every egg she laid and try to eat the others' eggs. We took her away from the flock and let her free run the yard with the dogs and kids. She is soooo happy. She now lays 2 eggs a day and never eats them!!! Go figure! Also our leghorns used to lay 2 eggs...
We adopted hens once from a lady who was going into foreclosure. They were molting and looked terrible... Ours at the time were molting too, so we were getting hardly any eggs. We thought we made a mistake. But after TLC and letting the hens be real hens they began to thrive. They are all...
Hello,
We have a 3 month old Buff Orpington. She looks just like our adult BO hen. She was previously in a run with only roosters. The roosters are gone now. And she is only with one other pullet at this time. (They are separate from the adult flock). There is absolutely no rooster...
**UPDATE** SHE LIVES!
Skittles is growing so much that she is too big for the tank! So we moved her last night to a chicken cage within the coop so she can integrate with the flock from behind bars for a few days until we think she can re-join them. She is still feisty as ever and ready to...
Alu-shield... That is great to hear about. I was hoping for something like this back in beginning of her injury and didn't know about it!
*Update* Skittles is showing no signs of illness. She is spunky and wanting to be with her friends. She eats and drinks well and we are not seeing any...
