Got a white leghorn pullet from a chicken owner who needed to downsize her flock. She started laying for me at about 18-19 weeks, and now at 23-24 weeks, she lays 5-7 eggs a week. She is smaller than my other LF birds though, and flies very well...we clipped her wing, but she still figured out...
I've heard of chickens having seizures due to heat...but I've never heard of this. I'm so sorry! I hope you can figure out what's wrong with her and help her.
Chicks4fun - I'd say you've got a keeper in that roo! Who cares what his breed is when he's that great around your girls! I've got 2 young cocks in with my pullets right now...waiting to see what their temperament's will be. I hope I get one as good as yours!
I agree with the others...keep a log of what goes on "just in case", but otherwise, keep quiet and keep your cool. I worked in a family owned/run place once...most of the other employees (not "family") were great, but some of the management people (who were the "family") were just awful. It...
My three brothers and I were/are all homeschooled through high school. My older brother, my younger brother, and I all got good to great SAT scores, took early start classes at the local colleges, and got scholarships when we graduated (My youngest brother is still in high school). I played...
I'm really not sure, but hopefully this will bump you up so someone with more knowledge can give you an answer! So sorry for her, she sounds like a sweet bird.
Brahmabreeder - I think you're right. And I've seen the white spot on the eggs from the store before too...I think it's just easier to miss, since the yolks on store-bought eggs are so much lighter.
This is my 18 (approx) week - old OEGB roo, with a 14 (approx) week old BO pullet behind him...He's MUCH smaller than the big girls, but still tries to boss everyone around! He hasn't gotten much bigger in the body in a while, just keeps getting bigger and fancier tail feathers.
Sorry the...
My chickens and ducks free range in a large fenced in yard. They have food inside, and water outside (because the ducks make messes with water...). So they will go inside to eat when they want. I have two that are laying so far...at first they laid outside on the ground, so I took plastic...
I have 3 LBs. They are about 15 weeks now I think (kinda lost track...). Their faces are just starting to darken up, but their combs & wattles haven't really grown much at all. They are hatchery birds. Hopefully they will start laying before too long...
Just a guess, but seeing as her comb and wattles haven't developed like your other bird, maybe she's just a slower developing breed? I have a couple of OEGBs and they are even smaller than your little bird, so I don't know that she'd be an actual Bantam, (unless different bantam breeds are much...
This is very interesting! I would love to be able to learn how to sex chicks. But the vent sexing method looked pretty intimidating. Maybe I will try to learn feather sexing...
