Neglected Ducks/Chickens - What to do...

...under his eye is being cleaned up, looked like it was from packed on dirt that irritated his skin. His girlfriend had some string she got into wrapped *tight* around her leg and other than that just extremely skinny when you pick her up and touch her. But my babies I am blessed they are home.

Neglected Ducks/Chickens - What to do...

Thank you @Soon2BChixMom @PirateGirl @Wyorp Rock you all reminded me of the no goodies, they need nutrition. I got some good food for them, some of the stuff actually for ducks and not just chickens. I refreshed all their water this morning and brought them out. I believe my old man duck...

Neglected Ducks/Chickens - What to do...

(I apologize for the long post, I hope I get some good advice though, in a nut shell, what can I feed to starved neglected ducks?) We fell into a position that I had to re-home or home for a period of time (until we found housing), my pet birds. We abruptly lost our acre and land we lived on...

    Idaho?

I have a coop if anyone is interested. It is one of those metal hen houses from D&B. All metal, pretty large and very tall. Like a small tool shed. Full opening door like your house door and such. I ended up not needing it since I got my tuff shed built for them. It's been unpackaged but not...

    Lice and Hosts...

We went to the vet. She said permethrin since so many are sick. I ended up losing one. They are biting lice and my birds were awful anemic. Permethrin is the one that gets cats. But she said I'd be fine since my cats are inside. I have to say!!!!! First dusting NO more lice. I can't find...

    Dusting Frequency...

So my question that I am concerned with is how often to dust for an infestation? Every 2 weeks like the vet says or I was going to do it once a week. If I do it ever 2 weeks I am afraid I would never get control over the eggs hatching... ya know?

    Dusting Frequency...

Explanation... but if you want to get to my question it is below, bolded. My hens got lice. I started with DE and Poultry Protection. Well within two weeks the lice population EXPLODED and I lost a chicken. I had another very ill one so I took her into the vet to see what we could use to nip it...

    Lice and Hosts...

Thanks everyone... I called our vet up again who sees chickens and he said to bring one of them in and we can discuss more options since I haven't seen a down fall yet, if not I am seeing more. It's tomorrow, we shall see what we get from there, haha.

    Lice and Hosts...

I have sever anxiety and panic so the amount I have found on my cross beak sent me through the roof. I only found a couple on one other bird out of my 14. But any is too much for me. I had a huge break down to my vet telling him that these birds are completely my stress relief and my babies yet...

...time wasn't well since I was afraid to use it, finally researched enough I felt comfortable and treated a 2nd time 2wks later properly) . Also *daily* I spray everyone with the lice/mite preventative I have, even her. Everyone also gets ACV and garlic daily too. They can't switch hosts...

    walk in coop and sand

I told them it would be for chickens and they said no problem in that aspect... Yep, I plan on picking it up daily with a kitty scoop, I don't have that many birds at all. I just kept getting the answer from most that covering the floor only had the benefit of an easy clean up when I do a...

    walk in coop and sand

...linoleum. They said I should have no problem with a good few inches of sand. Just wont have the super easy broom clean up but oh well, I do have a *huge* shop vac. I also don't plan on ever getting the floor wet as food and water will be outside. So I suppose that answers my should I lay a...

    walk in coop and sand

Thanks Morigen, My coop is up on a steel foundation and then has treated even (slick) floor. Just like sub flooring in your house before they lay down your floor, but much thicker. It's a 8ftx10ft floor so I think I might actually go with one full strip, how do you go about laying that...

    walk in coop and sand

those of you with walk in coops and sand... is your floor just the usual wood floor? Curious... I want to use sand in my new 8ftx10ft coop, it has a floor... but can I put it straight on the floor or should I lay a "flooring" down. It isn't a finished flooring, just finished wood. I guess...
