When I let my new chicks out i first put them in another pen so they can see and meet each other like you. When I let them out they did get picked on a little bit but most of all they stayed away from the other chickens. I have all different age groups and the ones that are closest in age stay...
I have four broody hens that wont stop laying on my eggs. If I take away eggs from two of them they sit in the boxes and wait until another chickens lays a egg for her to set on, one just runs away when I take them away and the fourth one will peck a hole and start eating the eggs when I take...
I went down to my coop one morning and I found two holes going under my hen house and I caught a squirrel going under it haven't had any chicks missing yet but I was just wondering. It can't get into where the hens lay their eggs because the hen house has a floor, it was a old wooden playhouse...
So some you may have herd about my chick well for those of you haven't, I had a chick that started to walk a little strange so I thought that maybe she hurt her foot on the shavings or something but then she wasn't growing and her feathers weren't growing ether. I couldn't put her down she was...
Thanks for all your comments loved them all. Not getting anymore chickens soon but next time I will look at the breeds that everyone named. I am on chicken over-lode. I Love all my chickens but some need to go to new homes. I don't have a big enough coop. I have 24 chicks hatched and 4 more on...
My favorite are Rhode Island Reds because they lay a good size egg and for the most part they lay one every day. I have only had a couple breeds and they were the best I have had so far. I have recently bought Easter Eggers, Black Coppers, Welsummers, Delawares, and more Rhode Islands. I am so...
Thank you that was a lot of help. I have Game crosses with Rhode Island Reds, Black Stars, and also game hens. With the chicks that I bought I have Delawares, Black Copper Mrans, Rhode Islands, Easter eggers, and Welsumers. The chicks that the hen hatched are out of the hens I have already, a...
I have all different aged chickens and I was wondering when do you get rid of your older hens and what would be considered old for a hen. I do like getting eggs from my hens sometimes giving them away and sometimes selling them to friends. I have at least 10 hens that lay for sure, one old hen...
OK thank you for the help. It is cold were I live and i only have two cages for 15 chicks so when it gets warm again i will separate her from the others.
Haven't separated her yet. Don't know if her leg is healed. She is eating and drinking and has never stopped even when her leg first got hurt. The others don't peck her or anything like that they do walk over her a little bit. On warm days and nights they stay outside all day tonight is a little...
I have a chick that has a hurt leg and that has stopped her from growing she has some wing feathers and still has mostly fuzz. The other chicks have almost all their feathers.
Baby chick still alive started walking. She is not growing at all has some fethers but no more are coming in. Her having a hurt leg has made her stop growing.
I would switch them over. My chicks have always been on shavings from day one. I use the fine flake shavings because they are smaller and wont cut the chicks legs.
OK, so I have new baby chicks and one wont use one of its legs. I don't think that there is any way that it could have broken its leg. I am thinking that it's feet are hurt from the shavings that i have in their cage. I am using fine flake shavings the feed store told me to use those so that the...
