Hello!
i have 4 2-year-old ISA Brown hens who are as sweet (to people) as can be. One of them can be testy but nothing like a leghorn or RIR; if you move too quickly they crouch. They’ve always been absolute babies, and they let me cuddle them and get along well with the goats. In February of...
three of my 10 month old bantam chickens seem to be molting. They’re still so young though, and it’s only early summer! Two of them might be plucking their own feathers but the third one, who recently experienced an egg binding incident and hasn’t laid again yet, is dropping her tail feathers...
Yes, they all get along well. They mostly hang out in one big group and a few will be off chasing bugs or eating. The new renovations will give them a total of 30 sq feet per bird so that should help
Alright, thanks so much. Hopefully it was feather picking, they were both kind of nipping where the feathers weren’t and my grandfather feeds them way too many treats. I’ll check for mites
Good morning!
I have two duccles in my flock, Lemon and Lime. They both are missing feathers, Lemon a patch on her side and Limes beard. Someone told me it was a predator but I’m not sure, I wanted a second opinion because a raccoon couldn’tve gotten in the coop
You’re only adding pullets? I think it’ll be fine!! Maybe I’m just inexperienced, but I’ve always had an easy time introducing new birds — right now I just added two 2 month old pullets, and the other ones pick on them a little bit, but I did the same thing with some bantam pullets last fall and...
Also, I added my two pullets to the flock the night I took Milo, and I think they’re doing much better than they would’ve with two roos!!
Here is Boots, he’s currently announcing a tree branch fell
Thanks so much. I did get rid of Milo. I’ve also decided to trade Boots with a breeder for a sweet bantam hen she has that doesn’t lay. Figured a non laying sweet hen is better for me than a non laying rooster that keeps his distance! And I can now sit with my chickens without getting scratched!
Ok. Thanks. I know I need to keep Boots. I’m just so upset about Milo, he was my first bantam and he used to be such a sweet young boy... but I know roosters are better off shy and won’t be cuddly like hens
No clue. Chickens do weird things. I’ve been routinely getting eggs the size and color of pennies from my flock, even though all of the bantams lay white or blue eggs.
Also, should be noted that the one I don’t keep is gonna be fine. That rooster, along with a cockerel I have, will be going back to the breeder who hatched the roosters and gave me the eggs that hatched my cockerel/countless other hens, and she’s a sweet lady who will take good care of him.
Hello!! I have 10 hens, two pulleys, and two roosters. I’ve known all along I could only keep one. I was so sure I’d keep Milo, he’s older, he was always my favorite. Boots, in my eyes, used to be nothing but a rapist who didn’t care about the hens. (I’m not sure which of them is the alpha) but...
