Thank you. They seem incredibly obvious to me but then I started reading on the forum and decided I might as well check in just in case. Of course I picked out 3 of the 4 hens for my friend. Lol.
They seem pretty obvious to me but before I sell just want to confirm. No roo behaviors yet but 2 seem to be obvious cockerels compared to the other. Hatched 6 FBCM eggs. Sold 3 chicks to a friend. Her 3 look just like my one with very little comb/wattle development while 2 of mine seem to have...
Thanks! I tried to scroll back and do a little catching up but you guys have been busy! I didn't run across the pictures of the FBCM grown up except maybe one with one hen in the background? I have 1 FBCM hen from a previous hatch that I love. Although the neighbors dogs came into the yard...
Hey all! Just thought I'd check in and man has this little thread kept going! I've missed a ton. Just wanted to let you know I tried another hatch (FBCM eggs I got locally). My silkie went broody at the same time so input 4 under her and 8 in the incubator. As of today 6 healthy chicks and the...
Hey all. Great pictures! Fuzzy butts are so cute and motivation to try again next time. Hoping my Wyandot goes broody again soon. Nothing happening in the bator. Saturday evening would have been day 21. Tempting to break them open to see but will give them another day or so just in case. Very...
Thanks man. It is what it is. I will say- already getting snide remarks on the new thread. LOL. I may know a thing or two about animal health and care that I maybe never let on about on this board because I don't want to deal with it. Just gotta let some things slide and go on with your day...
I realized it was a risk with her being broody for a while. My other broody had finally stopped sitting after about 9 weeks last time she was broody so you just never know how long they will persist. Just rough to see them stand up late on day 20.......
Started another thread on what to do with the eggs. Helen was off them again and they were getting cold. I just couldn't stand to walk away- especially after hearing the peeping!!! So- they are in the incubator.
That's my current thinking. I went back outand they were getting cold again. They are in the bator now. Only problem is I leave for a 24hr shift just after 6am tomorrow.
OK- I started 21 days ago with 12 eggs. By a week ago we were down to 3 (2 FBCM, 1 Lav Ameraucana). I had a silkie and a blue orpington (Helen- has had cataracts since she was 6 mo old, partially blind......can still eat and get around but she misses when she pecks sometimes and occasionally...
Alright. Had started them in the incubator. But the silly hen went back to the nest. I am going to just trust mother nature and walk away and let the hen do what hens do. My only hesitation comes from the fact that she was broody for weeks before I put the eggs under her and she has sight...
Oh man. So Helen was back on the nest last night. Not sure she was being broody still or if that is just where she sleeps now. This morning she got off the nest. Told myself not to worry. Really not expecting much luck now anyway- suspected the eggs were all not well after she was off...
Teila- can you try probiotics mixed in yogurt and some scrambled egg? Have you checked for an impacted crop or felt her abdomen to see if it is uncomfortable- like a egg yolk peritonitis?
So- day 20 and I checked on them upon getting home from my 24hr shift this morning. Helen was off nest...
Take a deep breath......have a beer.....relax......
Just sayin'........
Chickens have been living without isolation during hatching for a long......long......loooonnnnngggg........time.......
.....but I am still unsure.....which one DID come first? Chicken? Egg?
Welcome Pooman
Helen is separated. I think the bad eggs are just breaking/exploding maybe? I will have to check and see how many are left. No snakes like that here- thank goodness! All of your chic pics are so cute! Nice work all.
