These 2 girls were either dumped or got very lost. They are living in a protected watershed area miles from any farms or homes, so I plan to rescue them soon and bring them home to my small backyard setup. Any idea what brreds they are? I'm especially curious about the little one..which I...
Also, remember that chickens are good at flying (unless ou clip their wings). They could fly over that tiny fence with no problem. If they are anything like mine, even if they don't fly over it, they'll enjoy perching on top of it...possibly annoying your neighbors
I have 4 hens and a yard about twice the size of yours. I let them out for about an hour a day and more on weekends.
They don't really bother me, but they are eating the grass down to the dirt in some areas, and throw my bark/mulch everywhere...they especially seem to love throwing it on the...
Thanks for the reply...I think I'll try that.
I read somewhere that spraying vinegar on the spot they are pecking may stop them for awhile (because of the bad taste?) Has anyone had luck with that? (I was thinking of trying it until I can get the no-peck spray)
Hi All..
I have a flock of 4 hens that are about 1 year old. They've always gotten along well, though one of the more dominant ones (Doodle) tends to jump on the others when she thinks they are doing something 'wrong'. All 4 hens have seemed healthy and happy, and while they are in a run...
My hen, Roxy has been laying since December last year. She normally lays medium-sized eggs, but today, after sitting in the nest-box for about 45 minutes and a lot of egg-song, she gave me a pebble-sized egg. It has something in it, but I haven't opened it yet to see if there is a tiny yolk...
Sounds like it's all sorted out now. I was going to mention that my Easter Egger has laid two eggs in one day twice now. The first time was her first two eggs, then again very recently. It's like she holds one in from the day before...then lays that one early morning and the second one near...
That's interesting. I stopepd using Frontline about two years ago because it suddenly stopped working for me as well (fleas immune). I always use Advantage and it works great for my pets...even my dog with a flea allergy. I haven't found cheaper prices for Advantage...but I'm always on the...
The only thing we've foudn that really works is the topical meds like Advantage/Frontline or the Capstar pills.
We have multiple dogs/cats, so I always get my meds online somewhere like www.entirelypets.com because it's much cheaper than at the vet or somewhere like Petco and you can buy a...
Mine are also a little skittish around me (except when squatting), with my Black Australorp being the worst. My Barred Rock and Coumbian Wyandotte have started to like me.
I do hand-feed a lot...which got them to start running to me to see if I have treats. I also talk to them in a soothing...
Are you sure your hens aren't squatting because they are about to start laying? If they are jsut scared, they should skitter away. Squatting is them confusing you with a Rooster trying to mate with them...
I have a BR, Lucy, who loves to jump on my back when I bend down (or in my lap if I sit in a chair). Now she's convinced my Columbian Wyandotte, Roxy, to do the same thing. My other two chickens just look at us like we're crazy.
I believe eggs from chickens with worms are perfectly safe to eat. The reason you toss the eggs once you start the treatment is that you don't want to eat the medicine/poison in the eggs.

Can you give us a little more information? For example, are they locked inside a run or do they get to free-range? My hens will usually try to lay somehwere outside if they can..but use the nest box if I keep them in the run when it's laying time.
Did these hens just start laying or have...
I don't think you should cull yet..unless you think he is really suffering. What you described doesn't sound too serious yet.
If it was me, I'd just keep him quarantined until I got a better diagnosis. Maybe now that the fan is gone he'll be back to nromal soon...who knows?
(Oh, and I'd...
